Hi, I was wondering if it was a common issue with early nissan maximas to have problems with the digital instrumentation in the dashboard.

Mine has been out for many years. The digital speedometer does not work, the temp/oil gauge does not work. In fact it is almost completely dead except for the Tach.

Im an electrical engineering student, I was wondering if i should dissasemble the dash, and take a peek at the circuitry and see if there are any blown resistors or overheated transsitors or any other hints that may suggest the reason for failure.-BRY

It's likely the dash unit is out. The 300zx's had a separate dc to ac coverter under the dash that would develope cold solder joints that could be repaired but the Max's is the cluster assembly. If it's inop you can't make any worse by seeing if you can fix it!!!
