wondering if a bose cass/cd head unit for a 95-99 maxima fit in my 90Q. the item is on ebay and want a cd unit in place of my cass bose currently. would like to keep the stock appearance while adding aftermarket amps and speakers. will only really consider if major mods aren't neccessary. thanks guys jeff

i think it would be a much better idea to get a new head unit if youre going to change the speakers also. I dont think its necessary but its a good idea. Just look around for one that you like....look for mp3/cd player.

didn't really think if the bose unit will play burned cd's, anyone know? IMO, i realize that an aftermarket head unit is almost always better than an oem unit, but was going for a stock appearance with top-notch sound out of high end amps and speakers. i'm sure most would agree that it's better to have great amps and speakers and a so-so head unit, than an alpine head with factory speakers. anyway, just considering the idea, but still need to know if the maxima unit is a simple slide-in for the Q. jeff

Yea the bose's will play burnt CD-Rs not rewrites though. I still got my stock BOSE in my Q, even though it is stock, it sounds a lot better than most stock units...

I believe the connectors are different in later years - not sure on the break point, but probably around 1995. I've heard of good results using an older J30 HU in the Q.

not really worried about the connectors at this point, when bypassing the bose speakers will need the adapters anyway. was really wondering if the unit itself will fit in the Q's dash opening without any problems. are they the same size head units? jeff

Okay, I think that the stock look of the BOSE head unit is much better than anything else you could put in that car. The Q has a refined look to it and IMO anything else would take away from that look. Just imagine your beautiful analog clock with a neon blue flashing Alpine head unit right below. ewwwwww!

On another note, the Sony 10-disc Cd changer that came with many Q's will play burned cds and cd rewrites.f

i don't think its possible to install aftermarket speakers to the bose headunit. the bose deck is rated at 1 ohms were most if not all aftermarket speakers are rated at 4 ohms.

you wanted to have a cd player in the q, and maintain the stock appeal you should consider buying a "nakamichi" (cd45z) cd player. its known for its superior sound, resistance to skipping, and oem design. there's nothing flashy about it...no robots dancing or dolphins swimming. just a small green display showing track and time. on ebay the price range from 180-250; probably IMO the best bang for your buck.

You will need an adapter to get the 95 and newer Bose system to work in your 90Q. Try this link and simply send an e-mail to the seller as he is more than glad to put another up for auction if you need one:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

Once you have this adapter, which I bought to help my step dad swap out the stereo on his 94 J30, you can buy any of the 95-99 Nissan or Infiniti Bose systems and the headunit will work beautifully.
