Ok I have a 04 Maxima. The problem I am having is that I have a Crank Position Sensor Code. I replaced the sensor. But the car will drop rpm's and stick in 5th gear. I replaced the transmission last year and was having the same problem. Except it only did it coming off the highway and I could get it back to 1st by turning off the car and restarting it. Now it does it a lower speeds and sometimes it starts in 5th gear. Restarting it does not always return it to 1st. It will if I let it set for like 30 minutes. Any idea's?

Sounds like it might be temperature-related. Maybe the replacement sensor was still bad? Are you still seeing the CPS code, or was that cleared when you replaced the sensor? OR did it come back later?

It's hard to say from this info alone, but some possibilities:
1: the replacement CPS was bad (or went bad) as well
2: there's something temperature-related that's killing off your crank position sensors, or at least causing them to temporarily malfunction until underhood temperatures drop
3: there's some other underlying problem that's causing the CPS to fail

I doubt you want to keep throwing parts at the car, but I would try to verify that the current CPS is working, and then go from there.

ok thanks. my connector has a crack so I think that might be it. Only thing is you can't buy a pigtail I have to get an entire engine wire harness. This car has been a nightmare.
