Question regarding a 97 Q45, I just bought. If I leave it in drive and floor it, it shifts at 6100 rpm, 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, should it shift at redline, 6500?

Thanks

Tell us about its maintenance history you obtained before buying ithe car and the conditon of its ATF fluid, filters, etc.

Have to check my wife's car to see when it shifts at WOT. She got a ticket, so she can't.

I went to the local Infiniti dealer and we looked up the vin, unfortuneately there is not much maintenance history. Hopefully the vehicle was maintained per the maintenance schedule at other shops and not just neglected. I transmission fluid is nice and red and does not smell burnt. The shifts are quick and firm, so I believe the transmission is in good condition.

ATF shouldn't be too dark a red. Do the white paper towel test.

Don't know where you are (need to complete you information) but adding an ATF cooler will certainly help in most locations as the OEM ATF heat exchanger is a joke.

Standard practice for a new owner, especially in your situation, is to change all filters and fluids so one knows where one stands. This would include a mechanical ATF fluid exchange, pan drop and clean along with the plug, internal filter screen replacement, and new bolts and gasket courtesy of http://www.everythinginfiniti.com .
