I was wondering what's the most power you could potentially squeeze out from a naturally aspirated VQ35DE/HR (no FI).

That's kind of a loaded question...you could get more HP from stroking and forging the internals alone than an FI system on a stock engine. I've read about a 450hp built engine.

However, simple mods will not gain much...maybe 350hp if you do everything minus internal work.

No clue so .

As he said that is kind of a loaded question. All I can say is if one's actually going for max hp then keep this in mind, there's so many variables to engines. Sometimes even a simple top end rebuild to stock specs on an old engine can blow out the lower half. Other times you can beef up the top and the lower still holds fine. Or the engine will hold but the transmission granades, or driveshaft can't hang and snaps off, that's always a fun one .

There was a dude on another forum who claimed to get 300hp @rw in his 03 350z with no FI but with the amount of money he spent its not exactly a financially clever choice.

I'd say approaching 300 WHP would be about as much as anyone could get without dumping a ton of money. And 300 WHP would probably be on the high end. At about 300 HP, you'ld be approaching 100 HP per Liter. Not an easy feat without an 8000 RPM redline.

...good question...and best 1/4mile time on NA with stock block and heads with max bolt-ons would be sweet too

It seems to require $90>$100>$120 per extra HP NA - of course there are ultimate limits . The first 10 or 20 can be done for <$2,000, then each one after that gets progressively more expensive.

The question is reliability creating an engine that will last 300,000 miles and make more power get harder and harder.

At some point after spending $8,000 it would have been easier and cheaper to have just gone to supercharging.

The problem is many thing you do to increase a NA engine may not be as helpful to supercharging later so some might need to be scraped.
