max. bore diameter on a ca
hallo all out there, can anybody tell me what the max bore diameter is on a ca18det, my third cylinder is f**ked by my engine builder and I need to put a sleeve in it, I need to drill to 88.5mm in stead of the 83mm standard bore is this okee or a bad idea? (engine builder is paying for this because it is his fault, much cheaper then buying a new short block)thanks, rick

88.5mm? Man, what are you trying to do? Your max bore diameter is 84mm (safely). I don't care how much you sleeve the block, there's not enough room for 88.5mms of boring. You are in extreme RB26/30 territory with that demand. 88mm? I don't think there is enough meat in there for that. If there was, the walls would be paper thing. The builder, if he's worth a damn (sounds like he's not) should be able to tell how far out he can bore it to fit a sleeve.

why does it need to be bored so much? 5MMs is a hell of an over bore.

yes it is outer diameter, but I have found a new block, he (the builder) is doing al the work for free to make up for his mistake.....thanks for the replies
