From the many times this has been asked and without my own experience, I heard it time and time again that you dont want to push it over 300hp stock..I forgot how much boost, but its somewhere around 12? someone correct me if im wrong.

depends. usually the stock t25 turbo is good for about 250 whp @14 psi. With correct mods of course.

who the hell cares about boost..... I could run 25psi on a T25 and make significantly less HP than 12psi on a T4.

With 93 you COULD run 45psi, but you'd have to tune the motor right on the edge with no timing and high EGT's.

Now a SAFE boost level on 93 and a stock turbo would be around 12psi, anything more than that and your going to loose effency and start to risk breaking things. If you want to upgrade turbo's or injectors you could run more (don't ask how much more boost you want untill you figure out how much you want to spend).

If the stock T-25 is good for 250WHP @ 12PSI, what would be a good WHP guess running a S15 T-28 @ 12PSI on a stock S13?

im not sure for an s13 as it has no vvt on it. maybe less but if you adjust timing, probably close to 280-290hp

I'd rather make power other ways than running high boost. I wouldn't want to run it more than 15psi on the street. Then I can run like 18 or 20 psi at the track, or when I wanna race. I agree with building the motor. I'm gonna take advantage of the time I have before I put the motor in and upgrade as much as my wallet will allow like a light flywheel/new clutch, possibly head gasket, turbo mod. Anything thats a pain to do while the engine is in the car.

My only problem now is I can't legally buy the car myself because I'm only 17. My dad is a GM master tech and hates anything but. He even dislike the camaros and vettes. I think he basically doesn't like modern performance in general. Hes more of the '67 chevelle type of guy. Anyway, if I bought a ricer w/o the intention of fixing it up and selling it for a profit, I think he would flip. I know he will stop paying for my gas and my insurance which will throw my budget out the window. So I gotta fiqure out a way to convince him.

I've kind of dropped hints such as:

-Subscribing to Sport Compact Car-Telling him that my next car will be RWD-Watch bootleg "Video Option" movies

We'll have to see what happens.

Hey guys,

The reason I said '67 chevelle is because we are going to build one. My dad got a '67 chevelle from his friend and all we have to do is go pick it up. Haven't had the time to clean up our garage enough to work on it. He wants to put a blown 502 in it or the new Chevy Performance parts 572ci w/ 720HP.

You got some good points but he really does not like foreign cars.

I've always liked BMWs. My dad kind of likes BMWs because they are made in Germany and he is 100% German. Theyve got some cool designs and I haven't driven a better handling car in stock form. I'm thinking about saving up for a 325is with a 5spd. Its a peppy little car thats real reliable and handles awesome. I can also buy a M3 front clip (just like you can with the S13) and swap the M3 motor in.

If he's a '67 Chevelle kind of guy, try this:

"I'd like a Chevelle, but good ones are expensive, and I'm just learning to drive. I'd hate to have a rare car and screw it up. Plus, gas is $1.50 a gallon, and a 396 (iirc?) V-8 is going to want a lot of it. It's also a 35 year old car that we'll need to maintain.

"A 240 would give me experience behind the wheel of a RWD car, at a lower cost per mile for fuel and maintenance. It's old enough that a home mechanic can work on the engine, but not so old that we'll have reliability problems. Plus, it's not particularly rare or valuable, so if I make a driving mistake and screw it up it's not a huge deal.

"In a year or so, when gas is cheaper and I have more experience, I can sell it and look for a nice Chevelle."

Wording that as a 17 year old is left as an exercise to a reader.

This argument appeals to three Mechanic Dad basics: - "Working on a car is great. Being forced to work on a car sucks." - "You need how much for gas money?!?" - "The boy doesn't know how to drive."

Just my $0.02.

I completely agree. You might also mention the cost of insurance for a 17yo - a 240SX (especially an S13) would probably run hundreds less per month than a Chevelle, especially an SS or 396.

I picked up my almost pristine 92 S13 for $2500 cash - 67,000mi from the original owner with all records.

My insurance is 163/mo liability only (the 167 in a 55 might have had something to do with that).

umm the T25 at 12psi isn't good for 250rwhp. At 14psi with about every bolt on known to man it might make 245hp at the wheels. The S15 turbo makes around 300rwhp @ high boost

I'll be driving my KA24DE-T up to Chicago hopefully in the next couple of months to visit a college buddy...

I kid you not...if you are anywhere near the route I have to take from Bowling Green, KY, I will stop by and even let your dad drive my baby if you think it will help convince him. When somebody hates something for no good reason, it pisses me off and I make it my goal in life to show them that they are wrong and hopefully change their mind.

at 14 psi i made 240 horse and 253 torque at the wheels, and i dont have every bolt on imaginable, so he is pretty damn close.
