OP, the reason you got some snarky responses is because you asked a pretty well-covered question. You should probably look through this thread the-ultimate-sticky-read-before-posting ... 41882.html and acquaint yourself with the vehicle before posting threads like this. If you still have questions, that would be the appropriate time to make a thread.

Also, in your original post you were very ambiguous. You should include more detail in your posts so that everyone responding better understands your question. I'm not trying to be a jerk here, just offering some friendly advice.

Getting angry over brands is childish. It's just a phase. I hope.

Anyways, like Fenris pointed out, a lot of engines can reach 400hp.

Tons of work and money, but that goes for most 4 cyl to get to 400bhp.

Its still a good amount of money, even if its a stock internals. 400bhp just isn't that cheap in a 4cyl (if it is it won't last long). Just the amount of work/money vary with the engine choice.

I guess it all depends on what someone considers cheap for 400whp, lol

but agreed :)

I was specifically talking about the CA18. ^true though, its expensive for any 4banger either way but I would think a bit easier and cheaper for the SR. A friend is trying to push for 400 on a stock internal SR (besides minor head work), but a bigger turbo, intercooler, injectors, and maybe other little things, but I dont see the 400 mark at all or it lasting a whole long time. That thing is in pieces anyways, I dont ever see it being put back together right with his bucket of bolts. Anyways, he's probly spent a good 5k on just the engine and buying stuff twice. The old turbo's spool nut fell off and he was riding around with it chopping the fins up for an unknown amount of time..

He isn't the sharpest tool in the shed is he? I also hope the 5K includes the cost of a complete motor set.

Getting a ca to make 400hp should involve pretty much the same steps as getting an sr to do the same thing. The biggest difference will be the ca specific go fast bits will be a little more difficult to find and possibly cost a little bit more as well.
