Funny thing, I noticed how the S.F. Mazda 3 and Matrix owners seem to have a need to race their car when a Versa is around as if it was a competition. How has your experience been do you get a lot of let's race attitude when you drive your Versa?

Just curious?

lol yup got some tonight, the biggest one being from a POS Civic, no mods, just falling apart with an older woman driving I was scratching my head! I sped up a lil bit prolly like 50-55 in a 40 and slowed down wayyy before the red light. Good thing cause LAPD was sitting in a parking lot across the street, because people like to race on that street.

I hung with a Maxima while getting on the freeway. Down here the problems are the beaters. It seems like they are out on a mission to prove that their 10-15 year old POS can hang with the newer cars. I normally line up, get ready and when the light turns green, let the cop that's behind me pull them over.

I've done that a couple times. It's fun.

Though last night I had an interesting one. I'm trying to sell my FC3S RX-7, and I had a buyer test-driving it (with me in the passenger seat, of course)... and some little HonDUH decided he HAD to race us, and was all gloaty that we wouldn't, thinking that he'd beat us.

Uhm, no... if the guy test driving it HAD accepted your challenge, civic boy, his arse would have been out on the street corner WALKING home.

Yep! Apparently Snowmobiles use a type of CVT. I'm actually surprised that the CVT doesnt accelerate faster, I would think it would be faster than a manual would be.

The automatic clutch and vairable pully assemebly still has a lot of slippage and power loss. It may also have more rotoational inertia, making it harder ot accelrate the trsnamission itself. The Manual weighs I think about 30lbs lighter and you get a much better launch off the line with a standard clutch. After that each gear is fully locked up. The Versa engine also has a very flat torque curve, so dropping 1500-2000RPM between shifts doesn't hurt you all that much.

Overall the car is pretty quick and I think sounds pretty nice stock. I wouldn't call it fast however. Even my 18HP 250cc single cylinder dual sport motorcycle will beat it up to about 60mph. It also cruises comfortably on gravel roads at over 50mph... something I wouldn;t try with my Versa.

It's not so much "let's race attitude" as it is "let's play chicken" here in Panama. But the thing is, everybody does it: it's the driving style. For example, cars don't just stop at a stop sign. They roll past it and typically nudge into the cross traffic. If you slow down at all they are off. Same deal with on-ramps or lanes merging: drivers will take the slightest hesitation on your part or the narrowest of openings as an invitation to merge in. It's literally a game of inches. It's reminds me of being in a computer racing game.
