Mating problem after Head Machined

I had a blow head gasket and had to have my head resurfaced. I finally got my engine all put back together and the distributor would not fully engage. I think that I need to have the distributor housing machined to match that taken off the head because that small amount my be enough to bind the gears. I'm I way off base? Please help.

Double check your oil pump timing. Having the head machined should not effect your distributor mounting.The only time you should have to machine your timing cover is if the block is machined.
