do any of you guys match port your headgaskets to match the water passages in the block, i see that the stock head gasket as well as the HKS metal head gasket i have blocks off one or more water passages in the block to the head, do you guys match port the gasket to allow water to pass through this passage??

others say they do it on DSM's and other engines for HIgh HP applications...

any CA builders ever done this.. or think i should?

I guess it won't hurt much to do it. My NISMO gasket came already with matching ports as well as my 2mm copper gasket. If you can open the gasket up without distorting it, I say go for it.

Anybody know why in the world OEM gaskets come with certain water ports blocked off? My E16s was the same way.

To make us wonder why the heck they did that?

Its to direct water flow to the back of the block, then up into the head, then back towards the front of the motor. If those ports were open then most likely, water would stagnate in the back of the block and head, making it run hotter on those back cylinders.

so just to be 100% clear... you're saying to just leave the headgasket as is and that those water passages are supposed to be blocked off?

I wondered about that also, but if Nissan made it that way, then I guess it was good and I should'nt mess with it.

this might be a stupid comment

but are you sure you are putting it on correctly?

IIRC when i put my new gasket on it almost fit one way, but some of the passages were blocked off. so i tryed to put it on a diff way and everything lined up perfectly.

see how the water jacket is clearly visable on the far left cylinder (#4) but on the other ones there is just a small hole on the bottom to allow water to pass through... its on there right;)

weird... both gaskets off my silvia motors (CA18DE and CA18DET) matched my new one exactly! which gasket are you using?

the brand is Nippon Reinz

i was in a hurry and ordered the gasket set overnight, so i could get my car back on the road asap.

and i am almost 100% posative that it had full coolent ports on all the cylinders

High compression turbo motors are a blast... till they blow up.
