i've been looking for this leak for a while and i just cant find it. it isn't a slow leak or a typical oil pan gasket leak where it just oozes out. it is being sprayed out from a place i cant see when the engine is running. it drips from all kinds of places on the frame and from the large links for the control arms near the middle of the front of the engine. it loses oil quickly but it doesnt seem to get any lower than the low line on the dip stick, but i've never really triend to see if i could get it any lower, ive already spun a rod bearing in a different KA

i've heard that sometimes eventually nissan oil pressure sensors will go and and they spray oil. I also worry if it is the rear main seal. My question is, has anyone experienced a similar kind of problem, and why would it spray? Although i cant physically see it, i can see its aftermath. thank ya

Could be the front main seal. It sprays because the crank and pulley are spinning.

the crank pulley has to come off.

first loosen up the crank pulley bolt with a 26 or 28mm(?) socket. just loosen it, don't have to remove it yet. you'll have to get all the belts out of the way next. then remove the 6 10mm or 12mm bolts holding the outer pulley on. it should come right off. a pulley puller is needed next to get the crank pulley off. after the pulley comes free, take the puller off and remove the big bolt holding it on.

and there it is. use whatever is handy to pry the old one out. don't mess up the seating surface. acquire new seal from dealership (get the dealer part. lol) and install new seal carefully as not to get it c***-eyed in its seat.

Ya it's not a bad job at all. Shouldn't take you long to do at all.

eddiec - good write up man, I wish it was around when I did mine.

yeah thanks alot man, thats probably the most informative and straight forward answer ive seen here in a while, and for that i commend you. yeah, unfortunately i knew it was 27, but thats cuz ive done four headgaskets, lots of turning the crank over. I think thats the real reason to remove the mechanical fan and shroud, cuz you take the dang car apart so much. sorry anyways...

Although this does seem like a great solution and reletively quick, does anyone have any similar experiences with this front seal oil leak? Again, thanks a lot for your help and take care

Mine was leaking when I bought it. Makes a huge mess under the hood. Took me awhile to figure where the leak was coming from because everything was covered in oil. Then I noticed It was only really spraying the bottom of everything. Had acouple friends look at it and we found the source. Went to the dealership or autozone (can't remember) got the front seal. Put it in and haven't had any problems since.

Okay thanks alot, unfortunately i made it to the dealership after college today two minutes late and the parts guy left. When i look at where all the oil is, it looks like this is obviously the problem, again thanks
