Mass Air Flow Sensor problem

I was checking my Mass Air Flow Sensor unit , all i did was taking off looked at it put it back on and now my engine is freaking out . The idle is out of control up and down and i cant drive m also getting a code 12 on my ecu, there cant be anything wrong with it I never touch in it in 20 years i own the car What happen ?

Did you not re-hook the connector up properly? Or is there a big vacuum leak somewhere?

Check the connector for corrosion, and make sure that pushing it back on that you didn't disturb a hose clamp/loosen something accidentally. Also, do you have a cone filter or the OEM box? Re-installing the OEM box can sometimes end up with an intake hose open/vacuum leak...worth a check!
Also, using some MAF cleaner surely can't hurt if you have never had it off before as you said.
