My CEL is on and when the car is cold it won't idle for the first 15-20 seconds. I have read that the MAF is a common failure on this model of car.

Two questions, how do I know for sure that the CEL is indicating a mass Air FLow sensor...and

Where would you recommend to buy one.

Here are intructions on how to read the CEL codes.http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html

And these are what the codes mean.zerothread?id=126542

If you do need a new MAF, I would check out one of NICO's dealer sponsors that are listed here(Pinncle, Midway, Everything) http://www.nicoclub.com/addirectory.shtml.Also check the Sponsor's Forum for extra deals provided by NICO advertisers.zeroforum/145

if you're talking about a 95 max, save yourself the trouble. in the link scott posted, there's a pic of your ecu behind that panel under your console. above the ecu on the 95's is an OBD II connector. double check and make sure you have the connector. my max is a 95, production date of 94 and i have the connector. you can go to Advance Auto parts (tell them it's a 96 or they'll tell you they can't read older than 96) show them where the connector is because most are on the driver side (we have an OBD I connector on the driver side). get your codes read, and go from there. out of all the A32's that come in with CEL on, they end up being 1 or more of 3 things: oxygen sensor (various ones), knock sensor (if you look at your motor from driver side, the knock sensor is located just under the intake manifold on the block, kind of a pain to get to), or catalyst effeciency below threshhold (either a rear oxygen sensor or cat. conv. is bad). you should be able to get a print out of the codes from AAP. blah. good luck bro.
