I just bumped the thread up that says "ticking, knocking..."

It was easier for me to do that than go over what I did again.

IT WORKS! I have a 2001 QX4 with 3.5 v6, 60kmiles . Apparently it has the same engine as the Pathfinder. Thanks to KALMUSI who recommended it to me, I ordered the 2001 Maxima MAF Nissan Part Number 22680-2Y001, online for about $80 bucks. it took only 1/2 to install and VOILA... no more codes! the shop wanted to charge me $550 to do this!

I also first tried cleaning the original MAF with "MAF Cleaner" from the autoparts store. I still got the code after 50 miles. In fact tried it twice but it just didnt work.

After cleaning the MAF worked for only a few weeks, I just replaced it in my 2001 QX4 with the 22680-2y001 part. I now get P0420 and P0430 codes. These came up immediately on replacing the MAF.Disconnecting battery for a couple of hours didn't work, so I guess I have to try ECU reprogramming - $110 in my neck of the woods.

My question is: is this a general ECU reprogramming, or do I need to request a special reprogramming for this particular part substitution?

Please post back what you find out.

I replaced my MAF with the Maxima one and it was fine for about 5 or 6 months. This winter I started getting the same code (P0420). I have a code reader, so I just clear it out and the light goes away for a couple weeks. I have done this 3 times already.

Everything else seems fine. My mpg is good and it runs and drives great. We don't have emissions here, so I am not too worried about the code showing up at a testing station, but this is definitely something worth keeping tabs on for other members.

I might want to get mine reprogrammed if I decide to sell or trade it in. I would hate for someone to think I am screwing them because they don't know the problem.

The causes of P0420/P0430 are:

Warm-up three way catalystExhaust tubeIntake air leaksInjectorsInjector leaksSpark plugImproper ignition timing

Basically, the two O2 sensors are saying that the cat isn't catalyzing.

I suspect that a wrong MAF sensor that was flowing more air that it was tellingthe ECU about would look like an Intake air leak.

i have done it also. It only cost me 112 dollars and it works great. no problems for 3 months now. But make sure it is your maf sensor. It does not need to be reprogramed. the computer needs to relearn it which takes about a week or two. My SES light disapeared after a week of driving.

I got the ECU reprogrammed at the the dealer. The guy didn't seem interested in any MAF information I tried to give him and didn't write anything down about it, so I'm assuming there is nothing special about the reprogramming. The SES light and P0420/0430 codes haven't returned in three days of driving now. Before the reprogramming the SES light would come back on within just a few miles after erasing the codes. So I'm taking this as a success!

So what is the difference between the Mass air flow sensor and the Volume air flow. The part # 22680-2Y001 says that it is a Volume air flow. When I look up the 2001 Maxima Mass air flow sensor it comes up at $384.45 So Which part is which.

I have a QX4 that is giving me the P0171 code. I cleaned the Mass air flow sensor last weekend and the SES light has not come on yet, I say yet because when I checked it with my program it came up as a possible code, so I think it just hasn't been enough cycles for it to came back on.

I was thinking about getting the Maxima sensor to replace it if it comes back.

Help anyone...

Dealer is trying to charge me the $800 parts and repair for the mass air flow sensor on my 2001 SE Pathfinder.

Read a ton about the Maxima 22680-2Y001 part being substituted ($105 vs. $550 for the part alone).

However upon confirming they have the part, the dealer said the connectors don't appear to match. 4-pin on my existing MAF. 5-pin on the 22680-2Y001.

Anyone have any insight on that? Desperate for a quick answer on whether it will connect properly or not.

Thanks so much.

I have this part on the way and would like to know the same thing. Am stationed overseas so I won't have it for another week or so, but would like to know if the connectors are the same or will work. Thanks.

Will replacing the MAF clear the P0171 code? I have tried cleaning the MAF and the code came back. The MAF is within specs .5 lbs/min so I don't know if it really needs replacing.

What a rip off. Even if the part is in the $400 range, you shouldn't be paying another $400.00 to replace it. It's right there in the intake tube, just after the air filter box. Easy.Do it yourself if you can.

thats rediculous. Its not even a hard job. Its so easy. takes less than 30 minutes so why are they charging u over 4 hour labor? Do it yourself or buy a maxima maf and save the money.

Just got part# 22680-2Y001 last night. Prior to installing it I was getting both P0171 and P0174. Took me about 45 minutes to install and the advice I have for you is DON'T DROP THE BOLTS! Other than one minor issue with that, the part went in easily and without issue. I disconnected the battery prior to installation.

Took a short ride after I finished and had MUCH more power. Really a noticeable difference for me. It raced a little at odd times, but then settled out.

Started it this morning and the SES light was out right at startup. Enjoyed the drive to work without that damn light for the first time in a few weeks.

Hope the part works out for you as well.

I just replaced mine last weekend and now, 5 days later the light is back on. P0171 was the only code I was getting. I am thinking it may be an o2 sensor. Does anyone know what the o2 sensor voltage is supposed to be.
