Cool! I don't care about slots themselves, but this will keep horse racing around in Maryland. I love going to the track, and even though I'm leaving the area, I want Laurel Park to remain open.

Will give the state more chances of taking back money off the poor should Obama win the Presidency.

I am excited that slots will be coming to MD. The way I saw it, if you have some sort of gamb|ing problem you can go to Delaware, new jersey and West Virginia to feed your addiction. with so many close easy to travel to locations to gamble it makes more sense to keep it in state and fund Maryland schools and other public programs with the slots revenue. The only real difference between the MD state lottery and slots is where the money goes. There were a lot of caveats involved too, an exact limit on how many machines could exist in the state and how many per location, it seemed pretty reasonable to me so I was down.

If someone wants to throw their money away, let them do whatever they want...it's more fun than just lighting it on fire - at least you get flashy lights and slutty girls walking around...

Slots? Seriously? You guys are getting jacked about slots? Last time I was jacked about slots was my 18th birthday when I could enter the casino. Play a real man's game at the tables with a stiff drink (or tonic+lime if you want to fool someone).

thats what i was thinking! its fricken slots! I refuse to beleive that nickel slots are going to ruin my home state. Also: good advice on the fake boozing. If you take your time and ham it up ppl will sleep on your gamb|ing skills and you can clean up.

What do slots and horse racing have to do with each other? People think slots will take down the horse racing industry? The people who play slots probably can't afford to bet on horses or even go to the track.

no, here in MD the horse tracks have been pushing for slots for years (im 25 and i can never remember not hearing them whine about it since i started going to the tracks and being able to remember 20 yrs ago). It always seemed funny i could bet on a horse (once i was of age) but not with a machine. Horse racing is a HUGE deal in this state and at some of the tracks its more likely for you to own several of your own horses than to not be able to afford slots.

Gotcha.

That's what I was confused because I knew that the tracks are a huge deal there so why would people feel threatened by slots.

Probably hoping that you go play with that money and lose it on the floor. Last time I went to Barnes & Noble and got a coffee, I paid with a $20 and got my $20 back plus the change owed.

No, slots are saving the horse racing industry. There are not enough horse racing fans outside of NY and Cali to support the smaller tracks, so the income from other forms of gamb|ing subsidizes it.

Without slots, there probably would not have been a Preakness next year.
