Looking to purchase a 22.

The marlin 60 seems to be a much more accurate rifle from the beginning, but the ruger 10/22 has a huge aftermarket to make it better.

The Ruger is locally on sale for $199 Blue and $229 SS

The marlin with a scope used is going for $199.

Thoughts?

The used marlin with a scope should be about 120 dollars. Great guns, more popular than the 10/22 however they don't have the same aftermarket support.

A new Marlin 60 is around 130-150 dollars. A used cheapo scope is worth maybe 10-20 dollars if that.

The Marlin's are awesome though. I wouldn't pay more than 120-130 for a used 60 with a cheapo scope on it.

Excellent information.

I'll see if I can get the local store to lower the price.

Just wondering where you got the prices from?

I'm searching the web and showing that the Marlin 60 is sitting around $180 used without anything.

Links please.

I'm going by what my dealer sells them for used. He has had a coulpe of bare bones model 60s for roughly 90-120 dollars. A cheap 22 scope can be had for around 15-20 dollars so they really don't add too much value to the gun itself.

Here is a link to a brand new Model 60 for 171 dollars: http://www.galleryofguns.com/g...t=All

I see those used Model 60s at pawn shops all the time.

Don't buy a used one for nearly 200 when new ones are cheaper than that.

I think he means that he ordered a new one, you know, have your dealer order a particular gun that you want.

Added a cheapo BSA 3x-9 scope. I'll replace it when it fails. I need to get some high mount rings for it.

Also threw on a Rock Mount 9"-13" bipod. This is mostly going to be a range rifle.

^ I want that. My tube-def 22 is a PITA at the range since you're only allowed 3 loaded rounds to a rifle at any given time under penalty of death and fines.

I got a Marlin 881 as my first and it's been pretty good to me. I really need to get some sand bags or a rifle rest or something to go along with it.

3 loaded rounds? WTF?

That is one hell of an asinine rule. WHy in the world do they do that?

I bet that is the same type of range that doesn't allow you to pick up your own brass once it hits the ground and they probably try to force you to use and buy only their ammo.

those rules are gay.

I don't like going to ranges though, I'd rather go out to a friend's house that has some land.

don't have to worry about morons mishandling stuff.

Alright, I bought another 22LR

Picked up a NIB Marlin 60SB. Wood stock with Stainless barrel and cheapo scope. $199 at Walmart.

Went to the range today before work with the two new guns and the .223.

Shot about 200 rounds of CCI Mini-Mags and stingers through the 795.

About 100 Mini-Mags through the Model 60.

I honestly have to say that the Model 60 is easier to load. The Removable clips of the 795 hurt your hand. There isn't a spring relief button/slide on the side of the clip. You have to press the bullets into each other. That hurts after awhile. The Tube on the model 60 is easy. Just drop the bullets in.

After a little siting of the scope I was able to group about 1" off of bipod and shouldered at 50 yards. Then the god damn rings hold the scope slipped. Ugh... Groups shot 12" to the right and 3" high.

Didn't have a single issue with any of the guns. I rapid fired through a clip of 10 in about 5 seconds multiple times. Never an issue with FTE, FTF, or autoloading.

The bolt hold open on last shot is awesome. You'll never dry fire the thing as the bolt is open.

The ejection mechnism will shoot spent cartridges about 8 feet to the right.

Cool! Glad you had fun.

I have I think 5 or 6 large capacity mags for the mag fed Marlin 22s. 1 or 2 30 rounders and a bunch of 15 rounders. They are quite hard to find these days.

They are almost impossible to find. I've found a few places that sell 15 round clips. Nothing more then that though

I have no idea, but I've heard if a state game lands guy catches you they charge you $100 for every additional round. So it may be some BS money grubbing technique. FYI handguns are limited to six loaded rounds. If it were a safety concern, would you be more worried about a smaller easier to fire gun having more rounds in it?

There are signs on the range that talk about the loaded limit. The $100 fine I heard from local gun people. There's only two state ranges anywhere near me and both have signs stating this limit.

Here is the specific rule. Apparently it is for all PA state game lands -_-

(6) Possess, load or discharge a firearm that contains more than three rounds of single projectile ammunition, except as provided in subsection (c).

(c) Exceptions for a handgun range. At a Commission range specifically designated as a handgun range, it is permitted for an individual to load and discharge a handgun containing a maximum of six rounds of single projectile ammunition at any one time. Other rules and regulations pertaining to shooting ranges under Commission ownership, lease or jurisdiction shall be in effect.

most of them won't allow a rifle with a capacity greater than 5 or ten if you're lucky.

5 round mags for the SKS used to be a common thing when they first got imported with the standard 10 round fixed box.

Hard to believe such a redneck, hunter friendly state would have such a rule, eh? I guess the state is more greedy than it is gun friendly.

For hunting, yes. For blowing through several hundred rounds, no.

Just got to work after going to the Range again.

Blew through 250 rounds.

Speed firing at 50 yards on bipod and scope I'm able to get into about a 1" group.

Speed is about 10 rounds in 7 seconds.

Changed the scope out today.

Put a Bushnell 4x-12x 40mm mounted on weaver see through rings.

It's nice not having to bring my target in to see where I hit(indoor range).

This thing is dead nuts accurate.
