That's sad... not the legalization, just that people use it enough to warrant legalization. Honestly I say let the weed heads have it, just make sure its in certain places, like smoking cigs is in most areas now.

By the way guys, its still a federal offense.

Yep. If I remember correctly Hawaii doesn't enforce the federal law either (though they do hunt and shut down growers). Same thing with homosexual marriage, Vermont and Hawaii don't enforce the federal laws guiding that either. The Netherlands (Holland) actually does have a law against Marijuana, or at least they used to, but don't/didn't enforce it. So if the FBI is in town, they will charge you, but your local po-po won't care. Legal, yet illegal.

Politicians are just gonna have to bite the bullet and legalize it. They lose out on so much potential coin by keeping it illegal since its the number one export of like 4 or 5 states, at the very least. Go Georgia!

Actually, legalization would take the money out (at least from dealers/ drug lords) and lower the appeal to many people, so I figure its a good idea.

Is ANYBODY here drug-free? Many good paying jobs that young men can get have mandatory drug screening. These jobs remain out of reach for people who would rather take a toke than earn an excellent paycheck...

Umm... I believe most people are drug free. At least, over their lifetime, though I think something like 70% of graduating high school students report having tried drugs... at least that was about the statistic a few years back...

i had a good job while not being drug free i was making 20$ an hour.. but i no longer smoke pot.. i hate the stuff.. its probily one of the strogest drugs i have ever done.. plus it makes me brake out (i have no idea why) and it messes with my head wwaaaay too much.. i think if they legalize it, then less ppl would do it because it would be easy to get and there wouldnt be a risk to it.. kinda like underaged kids drinking.. once u turn 21 its not that fun to go out and get smashed every weekend.. but yet thats what most highschoolers do... go out every weekend and drink and drink and drink.. but if they were to legalize it too many drug loards would lose money.. so i dont think it would happen.. plus everyone in office is still old fashond and the general outlook on pot has been "u will never get anywhere in life doing drugs" so i dont think many ppl would be up for it..

I doubt that legalization would lower the appeal. the legalization of alcohol didnt kill off their revenue. The whole point of legalizing it was to remove the cash from the hands of dealers/drug lords. At least the gov't can tax it to no end and remove any so called "impurities" from it. Also dont forget the possibility of some import/export.

I can honestly say I haven't ever tried drugs...but I figure we might as well legalize it, then we can tax it/piss off the dealers. Same thing for hookers, might as well legalize them too, at least then there could be mandatory testing and a liscensing process to make sure they are clean. People are going to do what they want, the government might as well make money off their idiocy if they can.

Half the appeal to most people is that its illegal, that's an exaggeration, but still. Some people do drugs or whatever just because they're not supposed to, the "rebellious" streak. Its just like speeding, if we didn't have speed limits after a while people wouldn't care much about going fast (okay, SOME people, not many). Speeding is a bad example... but you get the point.

No, that's akin to suggesting that rules are not necessary. That people will be responsible enough to police their own actions. While not impossible, this certainly does not seem to work. There's a fine line there. Still, there must be a line drawn.

People must have boundaries.... if you operate machinery for a living(for example), you really shouldn't be allowed to take a toke at your lunch break. If you drive a delivery truck 8 hrs a day, you should not be allowed to alter your senses before/while operating the vehicle.

These are the kinds of jobs I was speaking of. The jobs that will endanger your life and the lives of others, if you have a legal right to get high.

Should the drug be legal and allowable to only certain types of jobs? Say, a desk job? Would you want your 911 operator high when you call, as your mother is dying of a heart attack? Just some thoughts...

I don't mess with it, nor will I ever try it. My job pays well enough to keep me from risking losing it, and my reality is just fine the way it is.

I wasn't implying that we should have a rule-less society at all. The best thing to do, to me, would be to legalize some drugs, but only allow them in designated areas (abandoned apartment buildings or something) and have laws against doing anything like driving or operating machinery under the influence (just like now).

I read you. Beware that if you give an inch, they take a mile. Just like with the (here's spin, for ya), ten commandments monument, the liberal idealogues and the ACLU will attack that issue now that there is greater precedent on public record. Soon, the words on your money will come under greater scrutiny. This applies to what would happen with legal weed. The same people who are looking to get their agenda in the limelight, will take a mile if you give them an inch. If people could medically benefit from the use of such a narcotic, then I have no problem with that, but there is already a serious dependency issue in this country, and I don't see legal weed helping that problem...Just an opinion from the old fashioned traditionalist side...

I concur 100% with Phil.

THC is the only drug I have ever tried (once) and it did nothing for me except make me hungry as all hell. Smoked $40 worth of my roommates' good stuff (at their insistence) only to find that it doesn't affect me....

Good thing. I don't like to be "altered" ion ANY way - I don't even like to have a beer buzz (I have a 2-beer limit, if I even finish the 2nd one it's unusual).

Weed is the only drug I ever used. The only other one I would consider trying would be shrooms. I dont really think that if you can grow it yourself, dry it and use it then its that bad of a thing.

I agree sixxdeuce. My honest opinion on drugs is that harder stuff like coke, meth, heroin, and all those crazy things should remain illegal. But I dont see anything wrong with using something that is 100% natural, like marijuana or shrooms(psicocylabin), as long as its done in a responsible manner. Alcohol is one of the worst things out there, but that doesnt stop me from enjoying it, Im just saying compared to marijuana its no where near as bad. Whens the last time you saw an angy high person?? Alcohol kills brain cells, weed only damages them so they can repair themselves. Alcohol is also very habit forming(proven) whereas weed carries no such attributes(also proven). As for smoking on the job, whats the problem with monitoring it just like alcohol?? As much as I would love the legalization of marijuana, I dont think it will happen anytime soon. Look at the corporations that dont want it to happen, Pharmacueticals, Alcohol companies, and drug enforcement agencies, all of which would lose a substantial amount of money if it were legalized. I wish more people were educated on this subject b/c it might move us closer to a decriminalization state that would clear our jails of I beleive some 60% of the inmates. Thats alot less of our tax dollars going to feed some dude that got caught smokin a dubie to ease his glaucoma. I could ramble on for hours, but my fingers are tired, so let me point all of those interested in the direction of a little group called NORML. look em up on yahoo and make up your own mind.

heroin is natural it comes from the poppy plantcoke is natural it comes from the coca plant..

u they are just refined down to the akolid... they could do the same thing to THC (accully they do its called marinal)

the thing you said about not being able to smoke befor driving a truck, well its kinda like beer.. do u see truck drivers getting drunk befor the job? no, they would get fired.. i think this would be the situation with pot.. i think it should not be allowed at any job. but i think it would be nice for some ppl to go into a coffiee house after work and smoke a joint if they wanted to. now shure there would be ppl that would smoke befor work, but im shoure alot of ppl do that now, even with it illeagle.. (look at fast food resturants.. bet half the kids working are stoned).. now im not trying to get pot leaglized.. i dont like the stuff and a barly ever smoke... but i think if somone wants to go home and relax and smoke then they should have the right to.. it would keep alot of people out of jail, and make money for more usefull things like repairing the roads, better schools, and so on.. one thing that pot is good for is sleeping.. u smoke a small bowl and u will be to sleep in mins... i think there are some good medical uses that it could be used for.. if not even made leagle it should be looked at to cure sickness..

Yeah, true, and I wouldn't be against some old fella using it if it would ease an illness. Again, my aim was more toward the people who work in a setting where their senses must not be altered, to ensure safety and accuracy. It probably always will be banned from places of industry, where a body's motor functions are critical.

Generally, high school kids working fast food will probably always smoke weed, no matter what law is written. Just so long as these kids realize that smoking is a recreation...not a way of life...and the day that they cannot get a better paying job because they cannot pass a drug screening, and they would rather chill with their pals and smoke a bowl will be the day that both themselves and the drug become counter-productive to society. That day is already upon us, though.

You won't cure the addiction and dependency issues that the U.S. as a whole suffers from by making this narcotic legal. You only allow greater access, which in our day and age means <excess>.

access = excess

Look at the nation's body weight problems, and the fast food culture as an example of this.

The beer industry's "know when to say when" slogan is a good slogan, but still nobody seems to be able to actually know when to say when.
