Good stuff. I did Canyon sin Nombre to the Mud Caves yesterday as well. What a great time to be in A-B.

Did you have any trouble with the intake in that water crossing? Looks like the water is up to moderate level now.

Oh snap another San Diegan! Thats awesome you were there the same day as me. Agreed on the weather; 75* and not a cloud in the sky, less than an hour drive away it was 50* and overcast in Julian

For the most part, no troubles with the intake (aftermarket), and i even have a cold air intake in the lower bumper which directs air (and water in this case) right up to the filter. The QX4 did stutter at one point in the river but i couldnt tell whether or not it was the engine. Either way, its been driving fine since.

the water is significantly higher than what i'm used to. Thats not even the deepest part pictured. I looked out my door and the water level was halfway up the door!! I'd say it was well over the top of the 6.5" speaker, whereas in October the water level was barely at the bottom of the door.

And the mudcaves are awesome.

Looks like fun, but you know me, I'm stayin' away from the water until I build my damn snorkel.

Nice, dude! That's out toward Ocotillo Wells, right? Didn't know there was a water crossing back there...Didn't spend a whole lot of time out there in the Pathy...mostly took the dirtbikes out that way.

Is that the water crossing at Carrizo Creek or Coyote Conyon? I was guessing Coyote.

yes in the general direcion. Ocotillo Wells is maybe 20 mins from where all these photos were taken.

You are correct, its coyote canyon. I am not familiar with Carrizo Creek - worth visiting?

Yeah, it's got some pretty good camping and trails. IIRC, you can take the Stage Overland Trail near Canyon Sin Nombre east, and you will hit some marshy areas with water crossings and creekside camping. At some point, you drive up and downstream like Coyote, but for a longer time and sometimes deeper water. Not a place to do so alone due to remoteness, but if you bring someone for recovery, you should be fine.

Here's a vid (not mine): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfwBRao0z8I. Must have been in the dry season, because the water can be quite high.

Adam, I think all you need to do is get some sliders & you'll be set man (not to change the subject just rememebering the last time you went out & destroyed your running boards). How do the BFG AT's hold up out in the sand/desert?

the BFG's are doing great, made in the good old USA, triple sidewall so they are relatively heavy (and strong). One tire seemed to lose some pressure but its also the same tire that hits curbs very hard (for some reason i been nailing the right rear tire on corners). Can hitting a curb on the side of a tire drop the PSI somehow??

Yeah, it can...not necessarily from the bead, but the valve is only designed to withstand so much pressure...when you nail a curb pretty hard, and compress the tire, it increases the internal air pressure...it can be too much for the valve and some air will leak by. But I wouldn't rule out a slow leak, either...
