So in the long run I'm thinking screw the MAFS and upgrade to a MAPS...How do you do this and how much would it cost? I've only entertained this thought recently and now I'm looking into doing for a few reasons: 1) More accurate 2) Easier to tuneThat's all I can think of right now. I don't think this topic has been "delved" into too often on our SR engines. Most of us slap a Z32 and an SAFC and call it a day (I'm guilty of that). So Pro's, Con's?

Hope you have money. Lots of money, and a standalone. Power FC, microtech or stand alone that supports MAP sensor. Give you heads up Power FC cost 799, Map sensor parts (5 of them) cost close to 500 or more. Give ya an idea

HKS FCon VPro also uses a map sensor. I like the FCon because of the diagnostic features, data logging and the 4 32x32 fuel/ignition maps it can store.

MAFS are very delicate and sensitive. They can go out at any time. Especially old, used ones from the yunk yard. New ones cost $369 and that's a GOOD price.

Don't get me wrong though, MAFS setups are tried and true and can get the job done.

Have you considered using a MAF based Apexi Power FC? What are your power goals? I'm sure the Z32 can support it.

No I'm still open to MAFS based systems. I'm just looking to alternative ways of metering more accurately...I really don't have HP goals as of yet, rather I'm looking at doing modifications that will help the engine be more effeciant and accurate. In order to do that I'm trying to research everything I can possibly think of. So it looks like I have more to look at than MAFS vs MAPS systems. I'll take look at the HKS controller.

HKS controller for what??? If your trying to keep things efficient, keep it simple. Power FC, Z32 MAFS, tune and go.

HKS FCon VPro is even more simple: FCon, tune and go. No MAFS and a 32x32 bit fuel/ignition map. PFC has 20x20 but still more than adequate. Factory ECU has 16x16 map.

You will need access to an HKS Pro dealer though. I should have mentioned that. If you're in CA you're good to go.

how can you have no way of metering air? you cant guess... and you cant rely on an o2 sensor. so what then? there has to be a way of measuring how much air is being sent into the engine for the correct fuel/spark delivery...

HKS FCon VPro - If you can find a local authorized pro-dealer, go for it.

MAP Sensor= Manifold Air Pressure Sensor. A MAP Sensor is a wideband sensor that measures air pressure in the intake manifold.

that is what i was talking about, he said no MAF, and didnt say anything about a map, so i thought it didnt have either, which i dont think is possible... i didnt know the fcon came with a map...

if you dont have a z32 meter allready get the d-jetro fc for 600 and pick up the map kit for another 200 the price of the map kits is what your going to pay for the meter anyways so its really your choice but if you already have the mafs just power fc it.
