2011 Nissan Rogue, 27k miles... Girlfriends car, SL I think? Its fully loaded with HID headlights.

EDIT: So I now believe that these rogues with HID assemblies have motorized height adjustment, correct? This would explain the motors moving up/down as described below but not my main issue.

First issue was the driver's side turn signal blinked fast...thought it was a bad bulb. Looked at front bulb with lights on, and sure enough one of the two filaments (the one that is always supposed to stay on, not the one that blinks) was out, but didn't look broken....weird. But when I turn on hazards, they blinked fine always.

Then, I turned the hazards on one day (blinked normal speed, both) and the front headlight assemblies (BOTH) started making a loud popping sound and I went out and watched both entire housings literally popping out when blinkers would blink (like popping popcorn). YES, the housings were MOVING (popping) with the blinkers. These headlights have no motors attached to them like BMW's and Merc's etc do for turning and auto level adjustment, so WTF...

Then one night I had my headlights on AUTO mode and they would not turn on at all. I had to manually switch them on which they then would come on.

What the hell is going on here?? All help is greatly appreciated!!

If the bulb is bad, the turn signal will indeed blink fast, and it is normal that when you are using hazard light, it will blink normal.
And yes, Rogue with HID light (2008 - 2013) has a motorized headlight. And a short in the wire (possible burnt out bulb too) will cause the motor to move (as it happened on mine too)
I believe that it is because Nissan is using the same wire as the turn signal for the headlight adjustment motor (I think, but not sure)

Ok great! So what exactly caused your problem then? Was it in fact water in the socket and not a bad bulb?

How did you end up fixing it? Sounds like whatever you did worked?

It was water in the socket which causes a short in the system.
It also happen before with a poor quality LED bulb which causes short on the system.
So basically a short on the system will cause the problem, so you will have to find where it is from. But first change out the burnout bulb. Maybe that will solve the problem.

I didn't know that we have a motorized headlight. Is this right? I have a 2010 SL but I'm in Canada so the trims might be different. I installed an LED accent light tapped on to the parking light which is also the turn signal light. It didn't cause any issue at all.

I believe Canada Rogue does not have motorize headlight (non HID). If you have HID version of the car, you should have it.
As for the LED light, only if your installation is bad, or when the led is poor quality then it might cause the problem of the motor.
One example is that the interior light of the rogue (dash board) will dim when side marker is on, and it is done by detecting the voltage on the ground wire of the side marker, NOT the turn signal. If the LED uses connect both ground together (both the turn signal and the side maker, when you apply the turn signal, it will also dim the interior light, which happened on mine when I was using some cheap LED light.
