Hi Guys,

I just got myself a S14 (96). The check engine light is on, so I took the car to autozone to have them run a scan on it. The error code I got was: Manufacture controm ignition system or misfire.

Anyone know what this means? The guy at autozone suggested I changed the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, so I picked all the parts up when I was there.

I was just curious if anyone else has any suggestions on what may be causing the problem and what I can do to fix it. I plan to do a tune up while trying to fix this, and was hoping some of you guys and girls might have other suggestions on things to change while I am at it.

Thanks in advance!

OBD2 engines analyse each combustion by looking at the O2 sensor change .............one out of 4,6, 8 signals being excessively O2 rich means one cylinder is PROBABLY not firing or at least not burning up the oxygen in the right amount.

So what would you suggest I do to fix this? Change spark plugs, or could it be something even more severe than that?

To get to the bottom of it you need the code. The problem could be a rich condition or a lean misfire and without the code # you are guessing. Also make sure you use at least ngk plugs, Factory. You could have a injector not working or even a bad or dripping injector causing a misfire. It might be just a vac. leak. You might take it to the dealer to have it checked.
