I let my friend drive my Q last night and he said if you manualy shift it will make the car faster off the line. This was true, surprisingly it was much faster off the line. He did a sick burn out in first gear in which the car turned 90 degress facing the curb and he brought it back around. This kid is sick at driving, he drives the rsx type S which he claims would beat the Q. Anyway i was wondering if you shift maunaly at the right speed would it be safe for the tranny? Or should a scrap that idea.

It's safe. Do you have a pre 1993? No first gear start is available unless WOT at start, or you have JWT or 1993 TCM, or you select manually.

Wide Open Throttle. I.e., floor it hard!

Short of changing the TCU (or is it the ECU?), this is the only way to get a 1990-1993 Q45 to drop to 1st gear on start from a stop. Otherwise, it starts out in 2nd gear.

Even if you floor it from a start, the trans has to waste time dropping a gear. Much faster to manually select first. Even better to get a first gear start TCU!

:::OMG::: :::OMG::: <HEART ATTACK>

Did you cap slap the dude or anything?

Ok, maybe they're supposed to be able to do that. I can't bring myself to it since the ball and chain watches the paypal account and really wants a new stove, or carpet, or something stupid like that. Can they really take the abuse? I just got my 99 and am still skeered.

1993+ all start in first. Get a ATF cooler and don't ever brake load your torque converter unless you desire less performance and shorter transmission life.

Increasing the throttle while holding the car with the footbrake.

ATF get warmer to really hot, reducing power transmission, wearing clutch surfaces, reducing fluid life, and you are slower. Done all the time by junior hotrodders and some car magazines.

Yea, but it got adapted from guys back in the 60's/70's that but line locks on their cars and would lock the fronts and spin the rears to heat them up. Now we know that hardens all but soft/drag tires and in the end hurts the tires performance long term.

Doesn't mean people aren't still doing it .

The last guy I saw doing that was in a 76 F150 (probably big block) with half the bed rusted out, and half his beer gut hanging out. That's reason enough for me to NEVER EVER EVER do it!!! (keep in mind where I am from, there are a lot of those cats round these ports)

Sorry I can't keep from double posting. ADD I guess. So the moral of the story is to just floor it of the line, no brake, obviously?

I think I'm gonna do it with the witch in the car. Bet it'll freak her out.

Lots of em, but usually they just park in front of the house (so they don't have to use reverse)

Brandon, MS, eh? How far are you from Starkville? I lived here for a year ... back in 1988.

Is it bad for the car if u give it a jump off the line by reeving untill 2000-2500 with the foot break?

Read above about torque braking, unless you are a teenager or a magazine tester.

bout 2 hrs (on the trails), 3 in the Q (main roads)... so you know what I'm talking about when you see a pickup parked "crossways" of the trailer house. His Rev gear went out last year and only needs "front" gears to get to the curb store to buy Suphedrine

Brake torqueing WILL improve performance on FI cars ( at least turbo, if its a positive displacement SC, it will probably just cause more spinage) I tested this many times with my auto 96 supra TT.

With NA it's probably worthless.

Yes, but the problem is with the turbo's lag time to boost. And while the perfomance of the engine is being increased by geting it up to boost before launch, the performance of the torque converter is being decreased by heating the fluid.

Manual transmissions much preferred, but the clutch surface, drive plate and driveline absorb the abuse in that instance.
