My son recently purchased a 93 240sx with a noisy 5-speed transmission. He has just purchased a good used transmission from (I assume) a later model 240sx. After removing the original transmission, we noticed two differences in the transmissions. The transmission that we removed has a vacuum(?) port on top that runs to a bracket that is held on by the top center transmission mounting bolt. It also has an additional switch or sensor located on the front of the transmission to the rear and slightly higher than the reverse lamp switch. The transmission that we want to install has the vacuum port plugged and there is no hole for the additional switch/sensor. Is the additional switch/sensor a fourth position switch and is there anything special that we need to do in order to use this transmission? In every other detail, they appear to be the same. If someone can help me ASAP, then I can get this thing back on the road and get my son back out of my Suburban. Thanks in advance. LWhite49.

I think the line is a breather. is it orange colored?

they should all work, the 97 and 98 trannies looked a bit different last time I had a look at them otherwise they should all work the same.

Yes that would be a vent and the sensor is a crank sensor that is used on the later models for detecting a missfire only.

So a '97 transmission will work without problems on a '93, just leave the crank sensor disconnected? All other connections are the same? Thank you, I don't want to buy a transmission then find it doesn't fit...

It will bolt right up but I dont know about the other sensors you may have to swap or change some.I would just look at the two trans and then swap them over from the 93 to the 97.
