Hey everyone. I'm having some issues with my trans, its a 1997 Pathfinder SE 5 speed. The clutch pedal feels very stiff, and when it is running will not shift into any gears. When the car is off, it will shift into 1-4 fine, but won't shift into 5th. It seems like the clutch isn't disengaging, or some sort of hydraulic problem to me but that's just a guess seeing as i know nothing about transmissions . Oh and when this first happened and it did shift into gear it would make some sort of ticking noise as if something was hitting something else inside the trans. Sorry about the long post but I'm trying to be thorough.

do u hear a loud sqeuling noise when u turn on the car that stays constant if so it could be ur release bearing inside the trans, it could also be out of adustment meaning your assembly from the trans to the shifter check the bushing to see if they are worn one way to tell is if u have too much play in ur shifter side to side i would not rule out the hydraulic fluid too but don't how it would have an effect unless it was really bad or unless air got in ur system

There is no loud squealing noise when the car is on. How would I go about checking this bushing for alignment?

You have to spend some dollars here. It might be the clutch cable or the transmission. That happened in my 96 path, they replaced the whole transmission. goodluck.
