I'm currently in the process of changing my clutch. My friends and I are about to put everything back together but first we're going to change the transmission oil. The fill plug is extremely tight, we've taken an impact to it and it still hasn't budged. Curious if anyone has tips on how to get it out? Are there any alternative ways to draining/filling the oil than using the drain/fill plugs?

How did you get the trans off without emptying it? The oil would come out the output shaft hole once the driveshaft is removed. If the transmission is out you should be able to get a cheater bar and enough leverage to pull the fill plug, if it really wont budge you could use the speed sensor hole to fill the trans, it will be a PITA but very doable, make sure you drain fully and put in the right amount of fluid because usually the fill hole is used to level the fluid. GL.

Pb blaster is the second greatest thing ever created. Women of course being the first.

Seriously though, the threads aren't reverse by some chance are they? Can you get the full plug to move at all?

Yeah it was pretty much emptied on my back when we pulled it out lol. We've mostly been struggling to find the right size drive to get it out. I haven't personally tried just using a cheater bar yet since it was late and I had to take my girlfriend home so my friend just tried. If we can't get it I'll try the speed sensor hole, thanks for the tip.

I don't think they are, I haven't seen anything about them being reverse. I haven't personally gotten the chance to give it a try since while I was there we had a very sketchy tool to get try to get it out. My friend said that the impact didn't do anything but I'm just going to blast it with the penetrating oil and try and get it myself tomorrow night.

We've mainly been just worried about stripping it

Its not a reverse thread, If you strip it, you could always cut a new thread or worse comes to worse you could force a brass sleeve or reducer fitting in the stripped hole to make a new plug thread. The plug is 3/4 inch drive square, unless it has been extensively raped by someone previously. If you have unrestricted access to the plug you could also try an impact, generally an impact will be the best tool to use for something like this because it provides uniform torque on the plug whereas when using a cheater bar you are applying the torque not directly down the center of the plug which could cause it to hangup even more. Try that out and let us know but generally a 10-20 GAL air compressor and a decent impact will be your best friend.

Here's an update, we pulled the transmission out of the pit we were working in so there would be more room. No success with the fill plug, but for some reason when we impacted the drain plug it came right out

That is very odd, I have never heard of a fill plug being so completely stuck that even and impact or a very large breaker bar is unable to move it.
