OK so I disconnected the wire in the ECU that controls the speed governor. It worked, and I can now hit abut 118 mph, but in 5th gear and at this speed the transmission feels "wobbly" all the way up through the shifter. Not just a slight wobble, either. It feels like the whole transmission is rocking under the car, and the "wobble" comes each revolution of the wheels. The transmission mount is fine, (I have disconnected and reconnected it) and I only have a slight grinding sometimes going into 1st when the car is cold. The wheels and tires have plenty of tread, and are correctly balanced.

The engine also has alot more to give even at 118 mph. I would say from the feel of the engine, that the car has at least another 20 mph to give.I have a few bolt ons, so it's not stock. Any ideas as to what could be the problem?

Im thinking the problem is an idiot with a 240.

I cant believe im even going to try to help you, but its most likely your driveshaft being a tiny bit out of balance. Your still an idiot however.

...the bigger question is why aren't both of your hands on the steering wheel at 115 mph?

You do realize its not safe to operate a vehicle over 55 mph right? I'm gonna have to agree with 480sx on his drive shaft theory though.

Buy a Miata. Go to driving school. Take your Stock Miata to the track. You will never want to go 115 OR 118 mph again on a public road.

Wow when I posted my question I thought I would get some intelligent answers... For all you numbnuts that keep commenting on going 115/118mph, I do this on a private runway where I assist an air traffic controller, and obviously when it's not in use. Also, in San Diego where I live, sometimes the flow of traffic is 95 to 100mph, and I have cops passing me at that speed. on the freeway.

You know the funny thing is that all of you jumped on this bandwagon without even knowing what was really going on, you all assumed I was doing this on open road. It's nice to know that you idiots, who could be some of my possible competition out there, have a combined IQ of about 5, not to mention I am sure that everyone on this post has tried to max out their mph on the freeway at some point in time at least once out of pure curiosity to see how fast they can go. I just happen to like to know the limits of my ride, so I know how far I can go safely, or if anything is out of tune or needs work. I guess I should specify from now on that "no F* head smart @ss kids need respond." I'm sure everyone in here has had a legitimate question at some point in time, so quit acting like a bunch of old fart women about how fast I am going and grow up. (by the way I expect a bunch of you tards to reply with some other smart @** comments, and by all means do so I can sit here and laugh while you continue to waste your time and look stupid.)

The flow of traffic in San Diego is never 95-100mph.

Try south bound from carmel mountain road on the 15; then you will see an average of 90; so I can agree with him there.

Moving on to the IQ statement; because that caught my fancy:

If you want to be successful here; with the idea that success is defined as you obtaining the information you wish to acquire in a relative easy and fast way, then I suggest you bite your tongue a bit.

Any dunder head with a 240 can romp the throttle and take the care up to 115 (given you removed the wire from the trannie). Forgive of us for the great travesty of lumping you in to such a crowd.

I mean, logically, if that last 20 people that posted that speed were posting for some underlying ego binge (because mommy didn't make his/her lunch and daddy never cried), surely, any logical person could see that YOUR post would be different.

I mean, you can definably tell that you are a person of authority and responsibility, being that your name is not some cliche travesty; like project X or superdrifter93sx.

My most humble apologies. I will send for you at once to come dine with me at the Hilton in New York, where we can discuss the amount of public relations damaged this has caused you.

...

You dunder head.

*EDIT*I retract that last statement; there is no need for foolish name calling, and I apologize for that last line only.

All flaming aside, assuming your engine mounts are as good as you say your transmission mount is the next logical conlcusion would be an unbalanced driveshaft. The problem with that is cars rarely malfunction in a logical manner.

Bite my togue huh to get my answers huh? If you read my original posting, you will see that I said nothing offensive to anyone. My response was to the few idiots who were talkin S* back. I am not worried, I can get the info I need anywhere, someone just reccomended this site to me. Anyone that talks a bunch of S* without knowing the full picture is as you say a "dunder head." Like I said before, the combined IQ of these idiots is about 5, and that is being conservative.

BTW...

Carmel Mountain Road is exactly where talking about. I live right off the freeway there and see those speeds almost daily in the summer.

I'll take up your offer for the Hilton, where we can discuss my "public relations" damage... "dunder head..." <-- Your joke was lame

Come to DE. When i drive to our shop , i stay in the slow lane , doing 80. I get passed so fast that my car gets shook. theres been days where the flow of traffic has been 90+. And theres no reason for me to make that up so...

Really I don't think I need to explain this, but as you are so adamant about knowing, I always keep both hands on the wheel unless I have to shift. I also don't really have an issue keeping control of the car with one hand at that speed if I have to. I recently put on some polyurethane bushings and some new Kyb AGX's and have them on the softest setting, making the car seemingly "float" on the road. Maybe it's attributed to this.

Also my negative comments were directed at the appropriate parties. Obviously I didn't mean to direct that to anyone with optimal brain capacity, so if I offended you, I apologize.

What's your complete suspension setup?

Poly anything, or spherical mount anythign will make the car feal like a rattle can at times....

That IS my complete suspension setup. This is my 2nd 240, and I am still in the beginning stages of building, mostly because I keep changing my mind about what I want to do with it...

I plan on changing the rest of the suspension parts soon... If you have any advice on good parts or what not to get, let me know- all is appreciated.

He's right about san diego, there is no traffic on the freeway, but 105 in a 240 is scary, and i've gone really fast in a much bigger car, i really don't feel safe at that speed, even though at 3am when i'm the only car on the road.... slow down, 240s are not for top speed....

Cool 115mph on a safe place nice, same here I but mine was on a automatic and on an oval track went all the way till my speed needle stopped and was still going fast, same few bolt on rebuild with forge internals, piston, cams. I would say it's your drive shaft is it two pies or one pies.

the transmission usually shakes and wobbles at freeway speeds just because the road is not mirror smooth, even more so at 115 mph.

its good to push your car to the limit once in a while.
