hi guys, sorry for my english in case something is written incorrectly, it's not my first language ...
I was wondering if you experienced same as I do with the manual transmission gear box, I have 2WD xTrail
All the cars I had before the stick shift was smooth, changing the gears was smooth with no need for pressure to apply or a need to move from 2nd gear to neutral first and only then to 3rd. I do not want to say that the gearbox is faulty or anything I just noticed two issues
1. When I change from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd especially, it does not go that smooth and effortlessly as in my other cars I have driven (Toyota, MB), ie changing from 2nd to 3rd if I move quickly it is noisy and kinda not smooth and easy (not sure how to describe it better) , if I do it slowly leaving it a second in neutral it is better but still not smooth enough for me
2. While driving my stick shift is doing slight movements forward and backward. When I press the accelerator it moves backward a bit (1/2 inch or so) and this is happening on all gears, when I lift my foot off the accelerator pedal while in a gear it moves same way forward. And this is happening on all gears. Also I've noticed that on some gears, 2nd and 3rd, without pressing the accelerator pedal the stick is moving forward and backward itself slightly, I am not even having a hand on the stick, but this does not happen all the time, only sometimes.
Have any of you experience anything similar ? What can be done about this ? Thank you very much for any help and advise. Marian

So a looked up the x-trail and according to what I read they don't seem to be available in the US. However they do, according to what I read share the same frame with the rogue and look quite similar. I see the options in some countries include a diesel engine and a manual gearbox.

Here in the US we get the rogue with CVT and gas and for real variety we can get the CVT with gas. The rest of the world gets lots of choices and we do not. I would love an awd drive 6 spd diesel but that's just not going to happen here. If you're having problems like you describe it could of course be something simple like needing a fluid change, but I would make the dealer aware of the problem. On the plus side manual transmissions are pretty solid and trouble free for a couple hundred thousand miles, unlike the cvt, but you might have one of the rare ones that does have a serious problem. If it was my vehicle I'd try a fluid change first, since that's fairly simple.

thanks for the reply
my car is manual petrol, 6 spd, I would not call the gear box defective but compared to cars driven it is not that smooth and easy to shift the gear. Otherwise the gearbox is precise, the only thing that worries me is the pressure I need to apply to shift the gear (not much but there is some needed compared to previous cars (Mercedes and Toyota) and the harshness of the gear change. Maybe all Nissan's manual gearboxes are same, dunno as this is my first Nissan car.
Re the fluid, I have original Nissan one as the car is one month old, driven 4000 km (2500 miles), I expected the gear box to settle after a while, no change though. Maybe a different fluid is really the case here but dunno if it would be allowed by the dealer as the car is still under warranty. If different fluid then which one ? As I am complete novice in this. Thanks

this can be adjusted. go to the dealer and explain to them your concern.

I didn't realize your vehicle was almost new. Your transmission should not need an oil change for a long time. Like imstricken said they can be adjusted. Take it to the dealer , express your concerns and have them take care of it.

No if they adjust it just drive it and see if you like it any better. If not tell them it needs more adjustting. If they do faulty work you do not have to take the car or pay them until it's to your satisfaction.

If you're not satisfied by the service from the dealership you went to, find another one. You are under no obligation to have your car serviced by the place you bought it from.

so as expected the nissan dealer quated my complaint "it should be like this" I tested another Nissan car they offered and it was same, so yes, it is designed like that, however, this does not make me happy.
Now my question is, if I decide to change the manual transmission oil for my selected one, does this void the warranty ?
