My mechanic says that while replacing the front and possible rear seals in my transmission - he want to take a close look at the clutch for wear.My question is - At 97,000 milesshould I replace the "clutch" anyway, since we have to drop the transmission anyway. If so, what is the most reliable clutch to replace it with.

If it's the original clutch and you're in there anyway, I'd replace it. Unless your the first owner, I'd imagine someone beat on that thing at some point. Still, if your mechanic gets in there and everything looks fine...if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Can't go wrong with OE parts, but if you're looking for performance stuff, a lot of people seem to like ACT products.

Are you planning on keeping this car mostly stock or are you looking to drastically increase power?

Thanks for the advise. Yes, I am the original owner, bought it brand new back in '98. (no other driver than myself - I'm an old timer too)

This is a first time for this type of repair. Can never gives me any problems. Still running like a stallion after 6 years. I'm not sure I want this guy messing with my clutch. It seem perfect to me....but at almost 100k miles...ummmm

I've got about 100,000 miles on my car. I'm the second owner, but I believe this is still the original clutch. It's still working fine. Generally, if a part is working and I don't have a reason to upgrade to a higher performance part then I wouldn't mess with it.

Why does he think your rear seal is leaking?
