I was at Super Autobac's on Sunday and Picked up 5 qts of Amsoil 75w-90.

My buddy at Infiniti said I could go with Motul 300, but I wanted to try Amsoil and it was cheaper.

I went to look at the FSM and now I'm concerned. It says to use Nissan HQ Multi 75-85 or API GL-4 for the Transmission and API GL-5 for the Differential.

Anybody have any insight on this?

I wouldn't mess with it until at least 60k...

I had the dealer do my 6MT fluid and now it doesn't go into gear as smooth...

Joe drive it for another month, and then ask them to change the gear oil again. Ask them if they use geniune Nissan Manual transmission oil.

I hate driving an hour to the Union City dealer...I only go when I have a few things they can work on, or when I want to test drive cars

Nate:

Remember when I did my manual trans fluid and diff fluids in March of this year (2008)? I used synthetic fluid and i didn't like the way it felt in the gear box or how the car shifted. I felt like I was touching all the heavy metals in the transmission. So, I went back and told them to change all my fluids back to "Nissan HQ Multi 75-85 or API GL-4 for the Transmission and API GL-5 for the Differential".

I beleive Nissan's fluid is best suited for our cars---the formulation maybe designed specifically for our cars---the shifting is perfect. And by the way, when my clutch was replaced in August 2008, they replaced my fluid one more time. So, I have had two transmission fluid replacement already, and the shifting is as smooth as butter.

I really like the Nissan stuff it's a little more but IMO it has the best shift results. Specs of the fluids aside, the fluid was designed for that trans.

I'm probably going to take the Amsoil back. I think I got the wrong stuff. I know for sure it won't work in the trans. I was hoping to get some lube that improved fuel economy and reduced wear.

I think Powertrain is 5 years 70k but bumper to bumper is 4 years 60k miles!

Steve:

Yep! I agree. Just like you, I am extremely sensitive to small changes or driving behavior or feel of my car. Even small changes in temperature are easily sensed without an instrument. I really should be a test driver for an auto company. I would do such job even without pay on a part-time basis. Thats one of my dreams.
