Hello everyone. I have a 94 300zx tt manual trans, and was curious if I bought a vg30dett with an auto trans hooked up, what would I need to convert the new auto engine to my car with the manual. I know i need a new pilot bearing but can i use the one from my old manual engine? I am already replacing the clutch and flywheel but what else might i need?

I'd recommend buying a new pilot bushing, they are like $10. other than that and the flywheel/clutch of course the engines bolt up. Pay attention, the autos have smaller turbos from the factory than the manuals. I don't remember if the cams are the same or not.

Main pilot bearing and bushing? Am I remembering wrong and it is just a bushing or is it both the bushing and bearing?
I already knew the auto turbos are slightly smaller and plan on swapping mine over from my other engine if they are still good. Does the auto engine take the manual engines turbo fine, just a matter of using my manuals ecu still, correct? If not I'll use the autos until I can upgrade the turbos in general.

NoLimitZ32, thank you so much for your feedback. You are the best.

Everything swaps over, the turbos are smaller to protect the auto trans, the slushboxes on these cars are absolute garbage from the factory. There is no pilot bearing for the NA, the OEM piece is just a brass or copper (I forget which) bushing sleeve. You can get a NISMO piece which has needle bearings but I feel its pointless and just adds a potential failure point where as the standard piece will wear with time it will get you more longevity, others might disagree with me on this one.

Ok thanx. That is helpful. Two things, what is a slush box and I agree with a more simple part as it is one less thing that can break.

"Slushbox" is a term of abhorrence for an automatic transmission, its because an auto trans and torque converter depend on the fluid slushing around in there to work.

Ahhhh ok. Well I would still be using my manual trans from my current car and just take the engine from off the bought motor with auto trans. It comes as a pair so I'll probably just sell the trans afterword for a lower price than the going rate to just get rid of it since it serves me no purpose. Itll help to make a quick couple hundred.

TT auto has different intake cams. Will lose slightly on top end power but small gain on low end. Other option is to swap over your manual cams if in good condition. Remember the cams gears for the TT changed in 94 to p2 and will not bolt up to 90-93 cams.
