ive done all the wiring now, cars been wonderful, drives beautiful. i got the neutral safety switch going, the speedometer(had to rewire it because the previous owner of the trans cut the wire to the sensor), and reverse lights. just recently my engine light came on. i remember reading somewhere that said that would happen, does anyone know how to get rid of the light?

and DON'T suggest black tape please or disconnecting the bulb LOL i would like the light working so i can tell if something else happens to the car.

Pull codes of the ECU first, then go from there.

I had my car checked at Autozone. It's the PNP switch (park neutral position). The switch is available for both auto and manual cars. I dont think replacing the switch will solve the problem. The car used to be an automatic, and now its confused. It just needs to be re-wired, but I dont know how.

From the thread originally by nightkid86 concerning transmission swaps in s14s...

The only problem people seem to face with the auto ecm is rought starts...

Results:The car ran fine, the transmission is very loud when the interior pieces are not installed, and you will get a CEL. But now you get to shift your car yourself. 5th gear on Matt's car will grind if you do not shift just right (the transmission is used, so some quirks are to be expected). Also we have not figured out how to get cruise control working - so that shouldn't be too hard. My car is not 100% swapped yet, but due to some previos-owner installed car alarm, I can't get my radio to work.

The car is throwing the following codes:0804 a/t diagnosis communication, i believe i just need to plug my small ecu thing back up on the drivers side 1108 shift solenoid 1201 shift solenoid 1203 overrun switch 1204 tc clutch solenoid, i believe this is the switch on the top of my fender in the engine bay, i should be able to put a resistor and fix that code1205 line pressure 1208 fluid temperature

ECU Swapping:In order to get rid of the CEL (which would have prevented the car from passing OBDII testing when the car is inspected), a Manual ECU was used. Once the new ECU was installed, there was no CEL and no more rough starts - the car behaves exactly the same as a stickshift that came out of the factory. The Manual ECU can be used with the automatic transmission wiring harness.

S14s are different due to OBDII. OBDII standards throw CELs when you swap the transmissions out. OBDI shouldn't. The easiest thing for him to do is to pull the code off the ECU and figure out why his ECU is popping his CEL. Not try to find un-educated guesses over the internet. His luck at fixing the problem that way would be akin to tossing a dart at a wall with possible problems and hoping that the dart lands on the correct issue.

you guys wanna know something for s***s and giggles. before i had done the jumper trick for fooling the car into park i had ripped the entire unit off the automatic transmission and put it in park plugged it in zipped tied it all together onto my firewall and and the car started up and i drove it home like that. the light came on 3 times in the one week period i drove the car like that. but i had not plugged the speed sensor in so i was sure it was that. after my oil change i took the unit out and just jumped it like the tut said to do. The light went away but now the light that's coming on is a bit different ittle come on once in a while but will turn off by the time i get to my destination. Do any of you think it has to with the car thinking its in park and it driving around out being able to sense if it sin overdrive or not?

locoluna: no. i just swapped mine and the overdrive light flashes a few times when i start her up but that's it. it's because it can't find the overdrive. you shouldnt get a CEL from that. the wiring is quite simple as well and shouldnt cause a CEL. i have a vert so i HAD to trick it into thinking it's in park so the top would work. that consisted of just splicing the green/blue and yellow/brown wires by the passenger fuse box on the middle plug. very simple wiring. i do not get any sorta codes thrown because of the swap. your CEL is due to something else, something faulty in your swap, or you did something wrong.

why dont you try checking the code and start from there

hahhaha i found out what it was, i had noticed that my e brake light had been stayign on lately thought the switch in the handle or sumthin was getting sticky. so i was in the engine bay the other day and checked out my fluids my brake fluid was below low so i topped it back off and the brake light doesn't some on and neither does the engine light .

only thing i was confused about is where the hell all that fluid went, i just changed the rotors and pads 2000 miles ago and i remember topping off the fluid then. i did a further inspection and i found that my front passenger side caliper was leaking fluid out form where the hose connects to the caliper.

yeah, there was no way it was from a properly done swap.

im really happy with the swap came out on that car. At first i was kinda iffy on how sloppy the shifter felt and was considering a BM shifter or a some HKS return springs to tighten it up. But when i finally got my shifter bushing, shifter body boot, shifter hole cover boot, lower shift boot, and interior sift boot in for the car it made it MUCH better so im overall pretty happy with it.

yeah i still gotta adjust my clutch pedal, its wayy too low. and my shifter im not too happy with either, but my whole shifter assembly is all really used. eventually i'll do something about that as well but it's good enough for now heh.

i love how it feels like drivin a brand new car. i guess it's time for a "FS auto drivetrain parts" thread
