I have an 06 g35 coupe manual with 25k on it. I bought the car with 16k and have always heard this rattling noise at idle and especially when the car is warm and I shut it off. I thought it might be the throwout bearing, but when I took it to the dealer, they said it was the gears spinning in the tranny and when I press the clutch it engages everything and goes away. They told me this was normal but it is so loud and annoying. I have to confirm but I also believe it makes the noise when I am driving in gear. Is this normal, or should I go to another dealer to try to get it fixed?

My 04 makes the same noise at idle in neutral w. the clutch out. And when I shut it off. But if the clutch is pressed in, it does not make that noice. I belive that is normal. There is a write up in the tech section on adjusting the clutch pedal. And it referances the noise.

I don't have this noise so I don't consider it "normal"

It's not the injectors your hearing is it?

no its definitely something in the clutch or tranny, and when you shut the car off you can hear it kind of wind down, as it rattles louder. I understand what the mechanic is saying, but to me it doesnt sound like it should happen, especially since I have owned numerous manual cars from fords to bmw's and I never heard anything like it.

It's normal. It has to do with the dual-mass flywheel.

Try turning the car off with the clutch depressed. If the noise goes away, it's the dual-mass flywheel.

Took me a bit to figure that out, too!
