manual transmission installation

I was going to post this in Classic Z since I have a 280z but the problem is any rwd manual transmission. I'm trying to install it but it refuse to get in!!! Is there certain tricks you guys use? I've tried so many times that I'm starting to the think the pilot bushing is wrong but eh. Please help me out asap

chances are the splines arent aligned. put it in gear so that the shaft doesnt rotate and then you are gonna have to wiggle the transmission untill the spines catch thenit should just slide freely till it touches. if it gets close but not all the way, you make have to get persuasive. use long bolts to bring the trans closer to the block then continue wiggling. also make sure you measure the pilot and the shaft before to do something bad.
