Hi,

I have a 1993 240sx vert that i want to do a 5speed swap on.

I have a 5speed transmission and all the goodies that i pulled out of a parts car i picked up the thing is i am wondering is there anyway to really check out the transmission and make sure its sollid without installing it and hoping for the best?

I just want to check out the gears and syncros I imagine you could look at the gear teeth but the syncros i would have no idea how to tell if they are worn and need replaced?

thanks,Matt

Other than taking the transmission apart and looking at the internals, if you have a shifter, run the shifter through the gearing to check and see if everything engages, relatively, smoothly. If you feel any binding pulling the thing apart is next on the list.

move the shifter. If it moves, you're good.If not, add oil.If it still doesn't move, your not good.Check for oil anyway.Theres a plug on the side of the transmission that you should fill to.When fluid comes out this hole...stop. And re-plug the hole
