I believe you have to remove the top motors/mechanisms.

I wouldn't get a manual top. You know why? Cuz i saw this old couple on the road yesterday that had a manual top and it started raining really hard and they had to put it up and good thing there seats where leather because it would have been ruined if they wernt. So yeah. But its your car and if you think you can get up and put it up faster then an automatic top then be my guest you can do it. Im just giving you my opinion on the whole matter.

there is a bypass valve on top of your hydraulic pump assembly in the trunk.turn it 90 degrees, & this will allow you to lower & raise your top manually. It is a failsafe in case your battery runs down, or your pump dies.

yup, flip the switch on top of the pump motor. it's not too difficult to operate in this manor, but you're fighting a lot of dead weight. if you want to make your top "permanently" manual, you'd probably want to remove the pumps and lines and motor. don't break anything just in case you change your mind. with all the pumps and rams and lines out, it's not too bad opperating the top manually.

i have 2 verts, one has no rams or lines or anything and must be operated manually. before it was all twisted from the suicidal deer, it was relatively easy to put up and down. the other vert has an opperating auto top. when i was swapping the engines, i had to flip the pump switch and opperate it manually. it's not terribly difficult, but i wouldn't want to have to do it like that all the time.
