is it possible to remove the power top crap and just put the top up and down manually? is there any problems with this plan?

im really not that lazy that i cant put the top up by myselft, and i would imagine that the weight savings would be huge.

I don't know if I would do that for the sake of weight savings, but you can certainly life the top manually if you like.

It is going to result in heavier wear on the metal frame though... which will eventually cause it to fail. Keep in mind that the frame is designed to have a push from the motor on a certian point. If you are lifting from one side or the other, it will cause abnormal pressure on certain joints and they may not hold up indefinitely.

Another issue is that you will have to get out of the car to put the top up/down... .A major pain if you have to put the top up unexpectedly. (Rain)

I wonder if you could rig up a string or wire that you could attach to the center of the top so that you could stay in the driver's seat and just pull really hard to pull the top up and forward. That might be an idea. You'd have to find a place to put that string though when you have the top up...

For the sake of ease and resale... I would try to fix or replace the motor.

Best of luck to you.

if you want to save weight you picked the wrong s13 chasis. the vert is the heavyst!! the top dose not weigh that much and if you take out the parts that move the top up and down your only saving about 10lbs it would consist of the

vert hydro pump pump linesand the 2 hydo actuators

sounds like alot of work for just that
