This is part of my new 240 project. Which is getting underway quicker then I planned thanks to Fiz having to sell me all his stuff...love you Fiz.

I'm not going to be looking for anything short of 700WHP on the bottle+boost. Not all the time, but a few times a month at the track. So the stock transmission isn't even close to an option for me. Plus I'm old and want the auto anyway...lol.

I decided my most likely transmission will be the C4, because it's a 4 speed and can be made bullet proof. Not to mention they are available to handle 800 ft lbs of torque for under $1000 brand new. I'll be using a 2800-3000 stall converter. So I'll be able to hit full boost on the line, but I'm not so worried since I'll have the bottle anyway.

I wanted to open this thread to discuss possible options as well as some of the more technical sides of this.

I like the C4, it's fairly light and skinny. Any options I should research first and why.

I'll be running the SDS standalone, which I believe has no transmission control. SO how do I manipulate the shift points? I know I will have valve body work to do, but have never done this. Any info will be great here.

What shops should I look at for my transmission adapter?

The mounts I can do myself. I'm not afraid to buy a ton of metal and do some creative welding.

Any suggestions for a custom driveshaft?

If you don't have anything to add, please keep the posts down to a minimum. I want this thread to stay on track. So posts will be deleted by Fiz and I quite often.

well I thought it was a 4 speed at first as well but its only a 3...

Ivan is the only guy making the adapter, and I think im the only one running this setup in the USA and Canada.

Why SDS? (i run that system on my RB26 powered 240Z) and not the AEM?

If you get a B&M shifter some of them can work with an air piston.

This is not a plug for Ivan, but he has a set up that he will sell for cheap. I add up the parts he is selling and I have no idea how he could sell it for that little.

Here is a vid of my c4 http://media.putfile.com/240sxc4003

Aye it's only a 3 speed. Ivan had the setup for 3500. I spoke with Sound Perf. the other day and they said they could still do it but that it was really Ivan's thing. He's at someother shop now.

Man I guess I am one of the few that's going to do a 5 spd Z32 or 6 spd Z33 swap. I'm really leaning towards the 6 spd as it will help keep my car in boost on the road course better.

I will also be working with John Shephard this winter to see what we can do with the factory KA transmission.

Yes... that is correct...

It has a great aftermarket and can be built to take a LOT of HP.. nobody is talking stock C4 here

Remeber that you get what you pay for. C4 cores are extreamly hard to find these days. A core will end up costing you 250 bux. To put the right parts in to handle the power is also expensive. To get a C4 built to handle 750 plus HP and have a trans brake will end up costing more like $2000.

YEAH!!! A name I've actually heard of! If he can do anything close to what he has done for the DSM's, we will be set!!

not to sidetrack the conversation here but I was under the impression you could swap bellhousings and use the transmission from a silvia, 180sx, and Z32. OS geiken makes gearsets for the silvia/180sx trannies that should be drop-in as well. granted it's not much cheaper to go that route I KNOW the Z32 trannies are stout so maybe it would be cost effective to go w/ that if someone wanted to keep their 5-speed setup.
