Flame me all you want but I have no idea how to do this. I know I need the following things: The transmission, the pedal assembly, master cylinder, slave cylinder, flywheel/clutch/PP and shifter. Do they just bolt right in, exchange each other? Is there a link or write-up I could read up on? BTW: the car is 280Z.

Anybody has those parts lying around by any chance?

it's a rpetty simple swap, you can swap the individual pedals but I think it's about as easy to swap the entire pedal box, this requires pdropping the column down and pulling the dash, which is easier than it sounds, as for the trans, the mounts are the same the dtriveshafts are different, , and of course you will need a flywheel, disk and PP, if you can get the turbo or 2+2 parts they are bigger and have more clamping force, be sure to get the clutch hardline from your donor and don't forget to install a pilot bearing in the motor as the automatic's don't use one, the shifter come up in the right hold but you'll nneed the bot and flange to go with it, and the most complicated aprt is to reroute the neutral safty swithc to the clutch saftey switch, it's much easier if you cna locate a donor car and just pull everything from one sounce

you never said the year of your 280z, but there are diffferences, I believe the automatic models came with an R180 diff, I'm not sure if the manual trans models driveshaft will share the bolt patern at the pinion flange, and there are at lease 2 different patterns on the pinion flange of the manual trans models, the splining on the slip yoke for the auto is different than that of the manual trans cars, actually the yoke in the auto is the same as the T5 equipped 280zx turbo but they use a longer driveshaft, you can use any trans form 70-83 but some might require more work to make work, there are 2 different lenghts of stock drivsshafts for the manual trans 2 seater S30, this si why it's ideal to get a complete donor car and pull everything, and if I'm right about your diff then the diff and mustache bar from the donor (assuming it's an R200 equipped 280Z) would be ideal to have, worst case scenario you have a custom driveshaft made, from all scrap parts this costs about $300, if you have the correct flanges you might be able to have one shortened for about $100

I'm glad I came accross this thread. I keep finding pretty clean Z cars in my hood but most all of them are automatics. They are usually in better shape and still running not to mention cheaper.

I mgiht consider picking one up now.
