I know the trans of choice for the swap is the 300xz. However, I just so happen to have a wd21 pathfinder that has crazy rear frame rot. Can I swap my pathy 5spd into my j30t? What are the gear ratio differences between the pathy unit and the 300zx unit? If my Path isnt an option, then am I looking for a z31 or z32? Turbo or N/A?

i am not exactly sure how well it will work. it seems that a lot more people that do a swap on those put a 300zx z31 transmission in. i know for a fact that you will probably have an easier time dropping a 300zx z32 transmission in. i did the swap about 3 months ago on my J30.

hit me up if you have any questions and in that thread i progressively went through with pics and info on what i did. so going through all the pages is worth it. i will probably work on a write up doc on it now that i dont have school for a week.

Thanks for the info. I'll look at your swap. I'm probably going to pick your brain about suspension too.

ok. just ask away. there is some stuff i am still learning myself about the suspension and its mainly getting the front set up. i also am going to be buying longer and stiffer springs for the rear of my car because i already blew an apexi coilover. the front i may also need to tweak from what i already have done.

it actually sits too low right now for what i am wanting to do with it so i am raising it an inch all around. it looks awesome slammed but i am also wanting it to handle well so i have to trade off raising it some for better handling and setup.

I want to make the car handle as well. Thats why I'm not going to run a ridiculous rim size. I have the J30t with the HICAS. I've been told not to deviate too much from the stock size. To be honest, I don't mind the stock rims at all, but do you know if running a spacer to get a bit more track width will affect the HICAS?

Swimshark; i really like what you've done with the car... it's very clean..
what do you want to do with the suspension on your car? just prings, or do you want to do coilovers?
How did you keep the two piece drive shaft on your manual swap? i just put a custom one piece drive shaft on.
and what pedal assembly did you use?
rear suspension you can take parts from a Z32, S13, S14.. coil overs from the S work, and any arms, sway bar from a Z, Front coilovers you can spend a little money and get a coilover kit for a Nissan Cima Y33. the front is suspension is similar to the J. or get spindles for a S14 and modify a bunch of stuff.. right now i'm going that route..
Here's a pic of my Manual swap.

i pretty much took the measurement between the back of the trans and the center carrier first. then got the slip yoke for the manual trans and took it to a driveshaft shop and got them to custom make it with the manual slip yoke. believe it was 32". as for the pedals i just took the clutch pedal out of a 300 and mounted it where the foot brake was. i then cut the brake pedal down to manageable size.

i am currently running a full coilover setup. s13 coilovers with the s14 5lug with abs spindles up front. i pressed in s14 balljoints to the lower control arms and used the s14 tie rod endlinks.

i have apexis in the rear and cusco up front. thinking of running 10k springs all around. i blew an apexi with 6k springs when i had passengers in the back doing some turns.

sway bar setup i have 300zx front sway bar with s13 endlinks to mount it to the lower control arms. i then have the 300zxTT rear sway bar in the rear. it bolts right up. once i get the apexis back on the rear i have a set of adjustable rear upper control arms to adjust camber.

Have to ask what are you using for coil overs? I have a 93 j30 and I'm having a hell of a time finding parts for it.
