Thats gonna be a lot of work. Something tells me if you had a practical reason for doing it, you'd already know how.

Nice zombie bump there...

Never heard of this mod before, using a FWD car's steering rack on a RWD... that seems wierd.

Why not jump in on the Atomic Rex manual steering rack group buy thread?zer...d-s14

91 to 99 sentra, any newer they start bolting directly on to the cross-members. They usually have a 4.21 lock to lock turn, and they push out 1 to 3mm longer than the 240 rack.

because you can get a steering quickener for $100 and get away with 2.1 ratio..

need more info on this Rare_f8do you have more info or pictures on the sentra rack?

And what belt would be needed to eliminate the p/s? iirc the p/s belt is the same belt that drives the water pump/fan clutch.

There are one or two companies that produce true manual racks for the s13, but a manual sentra rack would be much cheaper. If this is legit i'm all over it.

Flatblackian is doing this mod.

You have to remove the rack, dissassemble it, remove the fluid seal and reassemble it. Find a shop that rebuilds racks and It might cost $100-200

Removing the seal may require machining.

I'm thinking about trying it, according to their website, the junkyard by me has a manual rack from a 93 for only $40.

I mainly want to do it to keep my engine bay as clean and simple as possible, and I've never had a problem the few times I've drove cars with true manual racks. Plus it'll be less of a pain in the a** come time for my RB30 swap to get a DOHC rack or custom lines and everything needed to keep the power steering.

any updates on this? I'm curious. My rack is starting to give me some issues, and would like a manual rack anyway.

Sentra rack is not a direct fit. it's very tiny. light as hell! do not recommend to change, unless you know how mount it as a custom fitting.

I know that the 240z-280z manual racks are close to fit, but I do not know how direct fit they are with the 240sx.

I will post some comparison photos at the beginning of march.

Heard the older AE-86 Corolla rack can be retrofitted too. Quaife offers a rack and pinion upgrades for those.

Interesting info, most of it looks pretty sketchy though. Lots of hearsay and internet myths, not much actual experience. What I've been wondering lately is: what size belt do people use to run their water pump and how do they tension it without the power steering pully in there? I measured what the size belt you'd need and gates doesn't make one, not sure about other brands.

You can gut the internals of the PS pump to make it act as a free spinning pulley, xcessive sells a PS delete kit, or you can use the SOHC alt bracket and coolant neck to push out the pulley to use it as the tensioner. I was also Thinking about welding a second ALT pulley over the original one to use it as the tensioner...
Im going to run a Sentra rack on my track car regardless of the fab work I have to do.
