I am looking to swap out the PS rack for a manual model, maybe from a 70's Z or a 720 pickup. Anyone heard of this being done before?

i converted mine to manual. what i did was cut off the cooling lines that loop on the front of the xmember and just connect the two ends for circulating.

Ya, but a power steering rack that is running without a pump feels completely different from an actual manual rack. A manual rack also lasts a lot longer, and cause trouble down the road.

the gear ratio in manual racks is diffrent too- ive seen the numbers on ratios for p/s and m/s racks for fc's its way diffrent beacuse they make manual racks with this mechaincal advantage in mind. I was looking into using one from an fc, it looks very simliar in size to a 240 rack. I have driven a friends fc who has the manual rack and even with 245's up front and it steers way easier than my 240 with 195's, especally @ low speeds or from stop:( my capped off rack only bothers me when im in town or backing in parking spaces etc, but soon ill be running wider tires so i need a solution
