Although my searches came up fairly useless, I am hoping someone on here has some better insight.
I have my 2JZ out of my S13 right now for a transmission swap and my buddy mentioned a good point about manual steering racks. I get occasional drips with my current setup at the P/S pump, and if I could eliminate all that mess, and save a few lbs in the process, I'm all for it. Is there a manual rack available or has anyone successfully retrofit a different rack to the S13? I'm OK with a little fabrication if needed, and I don't need the car back together until Spring, so I'd really like to make this happen.

No, I am not at all interested in just doing a P/S pump delete and keeping the stock rack in place. Not an option.

Curious to see what info surfaces on this topic, I've been contemplating doing away with my power steering as well.

Wow. Crickets...

So I guess if I want to do this, I am going to get a manual rack of similar length and custom-fit it.
Cool! I'll post pictures.

Got new control arms because the ball joints looked shot and the bushings at the subframe end were also shot. Installed new coilovers too. But the main event today was test-fitting the new Omni rack, which looks good. I got the Helix rack which is a little short, but I got extended tie rod ends for it, so it looks good. I need to weld on the passenger-side mount for it, but I'm excited to test this out. I also need to modify my front sway bar because it wasn't fitting properly with the 2JZ, so it needs extended to clear the oil sump. So far, so good.

(Also got my front frame rail replacement covers. Can't wait to get those on!!)

Huh, I always thought a manual rack was an available option with some OEM parts. I never really looked into it as I like PS so much. So, I'm thinking this must be done by now. Since starting over a year ago. Any updates Phuz? Also, I'm wondering if you installed a larger diameter steering wheel. Old cars with no PS had pretty large wheels for leverage. Modern cars with PS could get away with a smaller wheel. What did you do? Also, what's the wheel to wheel lock rotation for this new rack? Just curious. :)

I kept the stock wheel. Steering is OK, but a little tough when stopped. So long as you hit the gym, it's not an issue. ;)

I forget the lock to lock turns on this one. Slightly more than stock, which helps.

How is the steering feel of the manual flaming river rack? have you driven many other manual steering cars to compare it to?
Thanks!

Thanks!
I'm using the Omni rack from Johnny Law, not the flaming river rack. The feel is fine, although I haven't driven many manual steering cars.

I like it! It sounds like you found a good setup.
