I'd appreciate hearing from other 6 speed manual transmission equipped Versa owners about their experience with their shifter.

My 2009 with very few miles (and I mean very few) regularly demonstrates a crunching sensation on the 2-3 shift. I use the word 'sensation' since I'm 99% positive it's the shifter mechanism, not the clutch. Do other owners experience this? Does it go away with greater use? Is there any 'fix' or adjustment that would eliminate this?

And while I'm certain it's not the clutch, I notice the clutch pedal doesn't demonstrate much in the way of free play as previous/older vehicles we've owned. Is clutch pedal free play a thing of the past or should I be concerned? Based on experience, I know dealers miss inspecting numerous (YES, NUMEROUS!) items in their pre delivery inspection checklist so I wonder if this may just have been another one missed.

Based on your description, I'm pretty sure this is normal. The versa 6sp trans has notchy engagements. Pretty sure all you're experiencing is that notchiness. It's been happening on my '08 from day 1 (bought new in '07, now with 91k miles). no long term issues.

The clutch system is hydraulic, so there should be no free play in the system, or at least very, very little. older systems used cable clutches, which were designed with a bit of free play.

For the record, I do a lot of work and consulting on VW/Audi transmissions.
