hi guys,

can anyone tell me if it's possible to add power windows and locks to a car with manual windows and locks? it's not a neccessity, but it's a comfort feature i'd like to have. very useful having one-touch down windows for ordering at the drive-thru.

thanks!

you don't need a replacement door, a lot of kits will take care of that....

Couldn't you also retro-fit the power window assembly off an S13 into your manual car? We did that for my brothers car (Integra).

A kit would actually be better though, since the assemblies from S13s would old/very used.

Bah, who needs power windows? They just add weight...and "amenities" to an enthusiast's car.

ahhh, but some of us are lazy, and don't want to be inconvienced by manually rolling down our windows. i drive an auto because i'm too lazy to drive a manual. my car even has power headrests and power telescoping/tilt steering wheel. i can even push a button to make the seat go all the way back and the steering wheel go up when i take the key out, to ease getting in and out. i love amenities. my car includes no options from the factory, these things are all stock.

Why would you want your car to be devoid of any luxuries? I wouldn't want to drive a gutted, hella loud, uncomfortable car every day, would you? I can understand taking out power steering, AC and that stuff, but power windows/locks are a really small part that really makes things SO much easier.

But then again its all objective, people drive their cars for different reasons. Its all about what YOU like and what YOU want for your car.

thanks for all the responses guys!

i'm probably jumping the gun since i found a good deal on a '92 240SX and the only downside was the red color and the manual windows and locks, both non-esssentials, but would be nice... but i have a strong feeling i'm going to lose out on this one since someone else has already scheduled time to see it before i have time to see it... :( it's really rough out there! be happy you already have your 240SXs!

it's true that the power windows and locks are non-essential, but it's those little things that go a long ways towards making a car just feel more comfortable as a daily driver. i want a 240SX because it's a great car and fun to drive, but in the end it's still going to be a daily driver, not a race car.

i didn't know kits existed, but it's good to know. i did a web search after dauntless brought them up and i think i should be able to find them for the 240. but i think i'd like to get the OEM controls if that's possible... now if only I can get the car!

thanks again!

I was more or less kidding about the power window stuff...but I'd definitely get rid of power windows before I'd get rid of power steering and AC! it gets hot here in the summer!

Because I was also PARTIALLY serious. I actually wish I had roll-up windows so i could brag that my car has no "luxury amenities.." I'd much rather have a lighter, less luxurious car that's faster, even if my car is my only form of transportation. I easily sacrifice comfort for performance...
