I have an 08 G35 Sedan Automatic with under 10,000 miles. Has anyone experienced a clunk in their transmission when shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd gear in manual mode? You don't feel it from 1st to 2nd, only 2nd to 3rd. Not sure if this is normal. Thanks.

I have heard that this is a fairly normal condition, and in my opinion, I would suggest it is due to lack of throttle during acceleration. Are you a person that tends to drive with the lead foot, or do you have a defensive driving style?

The reason I ask is that your enginge will eventually learn your driving style, and shift accordingly... If it persists or worsens, I would take it to your dealer for inspection. Good luck... welcome!

Normal. It shifts hard and you can feel it. It feels like a little kick with it. You should of try some of the 07 ones. You can feel the kick even harder. 08 has a litle refined tuning.

i have on 2005 g35x and i noticed the 2nd to 3rd clunk... i asked the infiniti tech and he said it was normal.. it was the transmission locking so you cant down shift... he asked how fast am i going when it happens... once you get above a certian speed and rpm coming up to 3rd gear it will lock into 3rd gear...

try your 2nd to 3rd shift in manual mode at a low speed and rpm and see if it still clunks... mines dosent... it will only clunk when i shift at high rpm and speed from 2nd to 3rd... and in auto mode there is no clunk at all...

if it still clunks at low speed then i would then be worried...

low RPM upshifts will make a clunking sound.for example shifting from 4th to 5th at 35 mph.

Thanks for the welcome. I have been on the Forum for a while but never posted. When I am in Manual Mode I am typically driving aggressively to answer your question so it is certainly not a lack of throttle. Good to hear I am not the only one who notices the clunk. I simply wanted to make sure my car was not the only one exhibiting this.

If it does get worse, I would take it in, at least you're covered under warranty, and could take a loaner out for a rip...
