Manual Locking Hubs ?

Around 10k miles ago my son lifted his PF 2" and we noticed the axle boots were torn so we replaced the complete assembly. Now one is torn again and I'm sure the lift angle is the cause. I'm thinking a cheap set of locking hubs could be the cure. Anyone have experience? Might pick up a 1/2 mpg at the same time.

Pretty common accessory for Pathfinders. I've got some Rugged Ridge ones that have held up fine and fit OE wheels. Can't attest for any mileage gains...my mileage is pretty crappy as is.
