Hey guys,

I have never done a manual conversion using custom parts i.e. adpater plates etc and was wondering is there anything wrong with just getting a machine shop to take off 10mm or how ever thick the standard auto bellhousing is on the transmission side and simply making a plate up for the transmission you wish to use and weld that on? I realise there is a bit of precision that needs to be involved to get it to all sit right. Even taking off 20-40mm and having a beefy plate machined and welded on would work and eliminate the need for more material depth to bolt the transmission to. Just seems a lot simpler than fly wheel spacers etc etc to me. And its dead easy to ad a hydraulic throw out bearing to that.

Thoughts?

On a side note how suitable do you think a T56 would be for a VH41? The double overdrive is the issue I guess, if only there was a nice ratio box with an overdrive 6th gear but usable first to fifth. I can get a hold of a T56 pretty easily and affordibly compared to skyline and Z32 boxes. Can anyone compare the T56 to a Z32 box? I've never driven a Z32. Box has to be able to hold up to 500hp fine as my eventual power goals won't surpase this. Any ideas for other transmissions worth looking at to adapt to the VH41?

What are you chucking it in? A T56 doesn't fit real well in a Z32 without some chopping...

The Z32 box's can handle a ton of power. Got a mate with running over 430rwkw through a standard one.

FD3S RX7. It will be my first transplant, the engine and mounts aren't an issue the real uncharted teritory adapting a transmission. Plenty of people have swapped LS1/2/4/7 LT1 and a variety of ford engines in to them and some with T56's so afaik it will fit.

Wow 430rwkw, some big numbers for a standard transmission. If only the Z32 box was a 6 speed with a 0.65ish 6th and 1-5th a bit closer haha. I've had a look around and can get a Z32 5 speed for $500-700. The T56 definately costs a lot more unless I got a lucky deal, haven't found any for less than $1200ish up to 2.5k. That said its not a huge cost in the scheme of things.

Car is going to be street legal weekend/track car. Leave the VH stock for starters and get everything running then hopefully by then I can figure out if I want to pursue a highish revving N/A or just force some boost down it haha.

EDIT: I just noticed your in Brisbane. Hows your build going? I'd love to have a look sometime if your free.
