Hey guys, I have been looking for a 240sx to buy for a few months now. I found a really nice 91 coupe on the street next to mine. I talked to the owner and there are a few problems, one being it needs a starter. The car was swapped from auto to manual by the previous owner. Before i go farther, i have to say i'm not mechanically inclined. He started it up to show me and there was a grinding sound before the engine turned over. My family policy is to get a car checked out by a mechanic before buying it. I went and talked to the mechanic (without the car) today, and he said that the grinding may be flywheel problems caused by having an "automatic starter" in a manual car. I checked the auto to 5 speed articles, and none of them mentioned needing a different starter. So here is my question: Do ka24's require a different starter whether they are automatic or 5 speed?
Thanks

The parts lookup at www.everythingnissan.com does not show a different one for M/T vs. A/T, so my guess is that they're all the same.

It's probably not engaging fully or mayne the flywheel has damaged or midding teeth?

I will say that out of my 2 240's I've had my hands on a few starters and the only difference is some of the starters have one more tooth then the others. There is even a note on it being a possibility and if the orignal teeth doesn't match the number of the replacement starter, it is OK and proceed. I was skeptical but after install found it starter quicker/easier. SO, it could be that a different starter wouldn't make as much noise. Confusing? sorry, the long of the short is confirmation that there is NO different starter mt/at.
