Hey guys i think i found my "cricket" noise. Between the exhaust manifold and the turbo 2 of the 4 bolts aren't tight at all. I'm guessing that the "Pins" that everyone talks about have been keeping the nuts on there. I was checking for loose nuts and stuff and i went to fiddle with the bolts under there and they wern't even finger tight. Basically the side of the turbo that faces the front of the car is not up against the manifold all the way.

Anyone have any pics or details on how to deal with the "pins" I have to do it in the car so i can't really get a good feel for whats going on under there.

OK there aren't any "pins" where i'm looking. There is a small metal tab that buts up against the nuts. How does this little tab come off?

In the first pic you can barely see the tab i'm talking about. You can see it in the second one and if you look close you can see it curve up around to where you can see it in the first pic

The only way i've gotten that little tab off is with pliers, and that was with the turbo assembly out of the car.

Cricket noise, eh? My car did that when the exhaust manifold to turbine housing nuts came off (apparently the brass nuts that come with autozone studs don't like hot turbo cars). So, the gasket between the two began 'reeding' or whatever when sufficient exhaust blew threw it, making a cricket noise. I'm guessing you have the exact same problem.

Sorry man, that happens to a lot of people who swap in SR's. I tell everybody to do the gaskets with the engine out now.

You have to pull the manifold and turbo assembly. Get an S15 gasket from phase2 (multilayer metal vs carbon paper) and a new Nissan Z32 turbo gasket.

It's going to take you 4-6 hours if you have a decent amount of experience, more if you are a noob.

hehe i'm no noob!!! :D

I tightened the front two... I'm still missing one of the back ones... I'm planning on doing an S15 Turbo swap just after christmas anyway so 3 should hold till then. The noise went away when i tightened the front 2 bolts

Nice. There's probably still an exhaust leak there regardless. Oh well, it'll prolly hold till the S15 turbo goes on :)

I couldn't get a screwdriver on the back one... It's in the car...
